WTF Challenge

Hey everyone. What you're seeing here is the WTF Challenge, a port of the first level in WTF Story by GIRakaCHEEZER to Cave Story+ (and now Cave Story Engine 2 as well).
See how quickly you can beat the stage and share your time on the thread!

This mod was created with GIRakaCHEEZER's permission and consent.

Hey guys! Aar here, and I have something new to showcase.

What you just viewed is the WTF Challenge. In this mod for Cave Story+, you are timed and have to see just how
fast you can complete the first level in WTF Story.

Must be me or something. Not to mention the pictures are wtfchallenge4.png, then 5, and so on. Check to make sure the link and everything else work?

Hm... that's odd.

The precision platforming is a bit harder at 60fps.

The fastest I could get was 1'11''6. I had a run almost complete that would've been at least several seconds quicker, but I got tense and messed up near the end. Just to let you know, if you put an "Org" folder in the folder of the mod, and make that org file's filename match that of one in the base "Org" folder, then when you play the mod it will play the music in the mod folder instead of that in the base folder. I think it would be more fitting to have GIR's "Putrid" org remix playing like in the real WTF? Story than to have "Geothermal" playing. That's just me though.

Also, would it be okay with you if I added this to the list of ports to feature for Plus Porter once I release the new version?

Huh.
I previously attempted using oggs for the new/remastered soundtracks and it didn't work, so I assumed orgs didn't either.

Yeah, it doesn't work with the new or remastered soundtrack, but it does work with the original soundtrack.

I didn't. Kept trying and trying and found the precision to finish in 1'00"3. Almost a perfect minute. Here is video of my replay. Did it on a game controller, not the keyboard. And I used Putrid music, it fits well.

A little while ago, Kayo asked me if I would be fine with this mod's inclusion in a small bundle of CS+ challenge mods they were creating. I told them to go for it, having completely forgot that I made this in the first place. Since the 2x res visuals kind of required CS+ at the time, that's the way I chose to distribute the mod. However, we now have stuff like the DLL mod loader and Cave Story Engine 2 by Clownacy and Cucky, so I decided to port this challenge to the latter. I don't expect this to revitalize interest in speedrunning the challenge by any means, lmao. I just thought it might be fun to port over, and it indeed was. If you're interested, please enjoy!

Oh, nice! It even integrated the custom sound effects, the "WTF?" text, and also the epilogue (AKA endless mine) music afterward. Looks good.
