Ok. Besides the fact that it's a floating island, what reasons did they have for going there. Did they want to escape the war, did the doctor convince them to go, or what?
Put your ideas here.

I think the war was over, actually. They likely just went to study the exotic lifeforms on the island, like hopping beanbags and talking rabbits. :p

Don't be so rude.

He's speaking about the Sakamotos.

My theory was that they went to the island because Booster wanted to conduct research on the island. (Booster obviously is very rich looking at his hair-style and how young he looks [no wrinkles].)

I always though it was something like he wanted to go to the island so since he was a child so he brought his family. (maybe Sue's father was left behind because he was actually dead from the war?) and a technician (Itho) and a medical assistant (Mr. Fyihuko)and I believe that somewhere in the game someone stated that Mr Fyihuko barely even got to go on the trip.

In other words Booster wanted to do research on the island and could because he was wealthy.

And considering his exploring the island in between appearances, he sure has been putting his Booster device to the test.
