What are the orange lines on Balrog?

Old topic!
The last post in this thread is over 60 days old. Posting in this thread will be considered a bump, so please make an attempt to be courteous if you go ahead with it.

If the last post is over 6 months old, it may instead be a better idea to start a new topic. If you aren't sure about what to do, feel free to ask a staff member for help, or try to locate a 'general questions'-type thread if it exists in this (sub-)forum.

The lines are the beginning of Balrog's metamorphosis into his true form:

Which raises many more questions than it answers.

Now that I think about it, the face-paint theory makes sense with the whole "leaping into buildings" thing. Since I know Balrog was intended to be part of a race of soap-bar creatures (there's some beta screenshots of it or something idk but there's more than one Balrog in them), perhaps they at one point decided to stand up to the Demon Crown, and Balrog was the leader or just one of their greatest fighters, like a guerilla unit or something. And when they tried to defeat the crown and failed, Balrog was enslaved and the rest of his race killed.

or something like that, idk. Just random thinking.

I think that the balrog enemies would not be considered canon as they were only in early versions of the game and were removed. So far I like the suspenders theory the best.
