Due to failing with building a flash org player I decided the next best thing was midi. Problem is that certain songs (like White for example) don't have midi versions, and the ones that already exist I will require permission (there's that evil "p" word again :D) to use.

So if anyone would like to submit a midi version of a cave story song then please do so.

Darn. At least we know it can't be done for orgs. A flash midi player however, is still something to look forward to. Good luck andwhyisit.

No I won't be making a flash midi player. If I can't alter pitch then a flash midi player is impossible too. XM is possible in flash but the XM conversion links are dead. I shall use javascript to do the work for me instead. But I need midi files first.

The idea is to play the music from the site without having to download it first (in case you don't know the name of the song or something), and without having to use large mp3 files.

But no-one has submitted midi files for use, so I can't.

Ah, so that's what you're trying to do. Sorry for my misinterpretation of it.
Good luck (again).

I think it is ok for people who don't want to go through the process of downloading stuff.

Oh hold on... the zip download links on the music section of the site are down... huh...

I need permission from those who converted them first.

Remember GermanSeabass's sheet music? He included midis with that too.

Those midis may not be using the right instruments, though... but I may be able to fix that...

Couldn't you guys use XM?
It's pretty much the original with slight and tiny differences.
Comes with loops and all that.

Or the MP3s, they sound exactly like the originals, and most of the CS MP3s are pretty small.

His midis are made to be playable on a keyboard, rather than accurate to the original.

If you listen to every file in mp3 format then that is 30MB of bandwidth gone. Also they take a while to load. Show me mp3 files under 200kb that "sound exactly like the originals".

As I said, the XM (extended module) format sounds exactly the same as the original, with loops, as they were directly ported from ORG's.
Each file is around 50 kb, so it shouldn't be a bandwidth issue.

With the right programs, you could listen those without the need of OrgView or OrgMaker.

You would however need an extension to play XM from a webpage, I believe.

Well, the smallest was 250KB... :(

Ah, oh well, the midis just don't sound as good, but I guess they're good enough.

Nothing bad, except it lacks web support, and support in general.
Oh well. You can still listen to them on your computer.

Exactly, but I guess I could look into it. There was an experimental xm player for flash on the web somewhere. But I wouldn't guarantee anything.

If anyone wants to submit xm files then go for it.

Then again, I still have neither midi files nor org files.
