I found it out through my Wii
One time 7 year old me was just browsing the Wii Shop channel and on the front, as usual there was Cave Story as a suggested game. Previously I ignored it because I used to be a "judge a book by its cover" person but after finally deciding to check out its page I decided I was willing to try the game out. I downloaded the demo (without any parent's permission because they didn't really care about what we downloaded or played on the wii as long as it wasn't T or M rated) and when I played the game I loved it. While I still played the demo I was kind of stuck in it and didn't know where Toroko was or where she went, so I kind of wandered aimlessly. I still had fun exploring the Mimiga Village despite being extremely confused on how to progress.
Some time later, like maybe a couple months I decided to sneak onto my dad's computer and search the words "Cave Story" because since I was stuck I wanted to figure out how to get past, but then I got sidetracked after seeing Cavestory.org and when I found out I could play it for FREE, I installed Cave Story Deluxe (without dad's permission because i was a bad boy B^) and played it SO MUCH
I think I got up to the Balcony but since the Machine Gun kinda sucks late in the game and I had too much trouble beating the bosses IN A ROW without saving. Eventually during while I was playing the game my parents started watching and their first thoughts were "wow this game is kinda violent don't you think" and eventually they pretty much banned me from playing it. I was still 7 or 8 or something so I understand now but at the time I was really upset
and then 2-3 years later I was 10 and accidentally rediscovered the game, played it all over again, got into modding, and since I was older my parents were okay with this.
Think about it: If I never decided to give the game a shot, I probably would have never known about the game.
And I'm 13 now. Since I first played the game when I was 8, whenever I play the game again or just listen to the tunes on my own I start feeling kind of nostalgic. I miss the feeling when I was playing the game blind and I never knew what was gonna happen next, what was in store for me if I kept on going. It's very nice.
That's the end of my Cave Story.
