I'm sure everyone that's played through Cave Story knows what I'm talking about. Shutter no. 4 in the Core. There's an abnormality in it, it's almost all the way open, and Curly doesn't even bother to walk through it. And the game never tells you what the abnormality is.

So what do you think it is, and why Curly didn't go on?

I remember someone saying it was a foreshadowing of Curly's "death". O.o

In the Core Base cutscene, as you are opening the shutters;
Shutter number 4 sticks and Curly says it's only open halfway.

Do you think Pixel made a mistake? I mean the shutter is open up much more than just halfway, and it doesn't make as much sense for Curly to just stand there as if you can't get through it. Seems like it would make more sense if the door was open just barely not enough to get through or maybe just enough to get through.

Actually it still makes sense, because the door doesnt open full the mechanism system will keep trying to properly open the door and wont go to the next process until its done,

(example of what i think i could be)
-Do open shutter one
is the shutter open? no = try again, yes = next process
open shutter two
is the shutter open? no = try again, yes = next process
open shutter three
is the shutter open? no = try again, yes = next process
open shutter four
is the shutter open? no = try again, yes = next process
open big shutter control area... and so on

not sure if im making sense on this or if it was even right to post this but whatever

They had to set up the next part somehow, right?

I mean if you're going to ask this question you might as well ask why Quote woke up in the first cave.

In fact that gave me an idea for a thread.

It goes more than halfway up because if it didn't Quote couldn't stand under it and shoot at it to dislodge whatever.

Can't you just jump up and shoot it? One sec testing...
... actually the place where you shoot IS actually halfway where the door should be... so you can hit it by shooting an invisible wall that is lower than the actual wall...
Sounds more like a Pixel oddity or a forgotten something.

Maybe a hidden secret message in there, who knows?
And maybe Curly's just cares too much about perfection?
