Anime Cave Story: Cave Story as an anime
After playing through the fantastic emotional game, I figure other people probably thought this to themselves to: wouldn't this game make a great anime?
The great promotional artwork drawn of the characters in and out of the game only compound this, but I would say so even without that or even without the portrait zoom-ins. It's just a really gripping tale.
If this were done, I would like to be able to see all the secrets of the game somehow included. This would include all 3 endings. Basically, like in regards to the Curly issue, it would be interesting to see the player's reaction to what happens and how he tries to fix it.
The way I figure, time travel is already in this as canon, because of that one scene I read about when you've beaten the secret Last Cave and it asks if you want to "rewind time" (is that the witch from Sand asking?)
This could be incorporated into the anime differently, like as an option when you are flying away on the dragon (in either respect) and wishing you could have done something to change it.
Like for example, he concludes that he was too selfish in trying to preserve his own life by taking gifts (machine gun, 0.8) from various people. So on his second chance, since he has gained additional skills, he is more proficient and less bumbling in his adventure and doesn't take the upgrades in hope that it will make a difference. It is sort of linked since he would need a better means of propulsion to replace the machine gun anyway.
If there was enough time span, one might even be able to set it at several reruns, like the 2nd time he manages to grab her but doesn't drain the water, or the 3rd he doesn't find the mushroom, each time getting closer to escaping his tragic fate by making changes and learning more about the world. Kinda like the Higurashi series, or that game I still need to get around to playing, Chrono Trigger.
