Why the fuck do we not have a pre-translated English version of Cave Story on the downloads section of the tribute site?
WHY?
Gah it's so irritating I've been wondering for a year shit man

From the server's perspective, uploading the whole game multiple times with the different language patches is redundant. It saves space to upload the main game once and then the various patches separately. Except for the deluxe package, which is pre-patched with English, but the deluxe package is SPECIIIAAAL. Or something.

No.
This argument doesn't work because we have it pre-translated in like 7 other languages right there. It would not be that much of a difference to delete the translation patch and replace it with the English version. Plus the English version is the most used language for the people using the tribute site, why not make a different language use it, even, if the space really makes that much difference?

Also, the other language versions are written in English on the downloads page. That's just silly, we don't even have the name in the original language as well, just English.

Wait. The other non-English languages are pre-patched? Seriously?

You'll have to wait for &y to show up, he manages the site.
Anyway, I never even downloaded my version so I can't be sure, but you seem to be having a real hard time of it

It's just an unnecessary complication for new players of Cave Story, we don't want to scare them off D:

Also when I break my only unmodded copy of Cave Story experimenting with OllyDbg like an idiot it's a pain in the ass to repatch DX

Just make a clean back up then and you'll never have this issue again.

I have a folder that I keep that just has vanilla cave story in it. Quite useful.

Yeah, there really is no point not to have a pre-patched version, it would just make it easier for everybody.

It does help.

When I was fifteen and trying to play Cave Story for the first time, I didn't know how to get the patch to work. I did rename the file thingy and it still put up garbled text.

I ended up just downloading the deluxe version which was pre-patched. If it wasnt for that i'd have not played Cave Story at all.

I'm pretty sure the version I originally downloaded from wherever was already pre-translated so I'd never really thought about it being difficult to find >_>

Voyce, you should put it as a .zip file instead. A lot of people get confused by .rar files. That is, if you're actually going to use it.

yeah i figured it was a better idea to do it in zip, since i also noticed that windows naturally can open zips but not rars.. but rars can compress more without damaging files tho.
anyway..

It doesn't fucking matter how common .rars are, we need to make it easy for the lowest demographic: those who don't have 7-zip or winRAR

If we force them to use 7-Zip or winRAR their life will be better overall.

The one for those who don't use Google is depressingly high

Wait, such a demographic actually exists?
They really do have something for everything...
But why doesn't the Deluxe Version count...?

The issue is that most of us want to be able to reach the lower demographic and could care less if they improved.

Most OS's come with what's necessary to open zip's, and I don't see any real reason to not make it a zip other than to say "fuck you newbs who don't have 7zip/winrar".
