In 2012 i found out about backyardchickens (a forum) and then i got interested in getting some hens, but the area where i lived didn't allow them, i recently moved to florida, where i can have some, so i bought a bunch of chicks :orangebell:

This is "Foghorn" (I think the reference is obvious) the white leghorn.

HNI_0097.JPG
These are "Gold" the buff orpington (On the right) and "Silver" the "blue" andalusian. (Pokemon reference XD)

HNI_0098.JPG
This is an unnamed black sex link (Sex link's are chickens thats colors depend on gender).

HNI_0002.JPG
This is "Brownie" the brown leghorn, i could only get the head in the picture because she's really skittish.

HNI_0081.JPG
All of them in one picture.

So has anyone else on here ever raised/is raising chicks?

I haven't, but I have a friend who has. All his chicks are now chickens and they use them for eggs.

Any way, cute birds liam. Be good to them.
My grandfather has some chickens. If you keep them outside when they get older make darn sure your enclosure is secure.

I'm usually pretty cynical about these situations, unless they're heavenly one could die at any moment.

That's an excellent idea. My relatives used to grow chickens on a farm for the eggs. I remember holding a really young chick when I was four. I remember him being really fluffy! Cutest thing ever, even though I was scared. Also their nails are pointy as hell.

Too bad they don't raise them any more. It was just too much of a hassle, since the farm is next to a forest and a lot of the chickens would get slaughtered by local wild animals. Times have changed, it isn't profitable anymore either...Lithuania isn't the same as it was in the 90s.

Also this reminds of another story. Apparently there was some douchebag cock who stabbed my dad's cousin (not sure if it was a cousin...) in the belly button. They literally made a stew out of the bird the next day lmao.

Yaaay chicks!
Although I think you'll find that leghorns are a bit skittish.

Hm yeah I dunno.

If you decide to get chickens again in the future, go for some Araucanas. They're super well mannered and they lay green eggs.
I'm also quite fond of Orpingtons and Rocks.

We have chickens, but we got them full-grown about 18 months ago. Two Isa Browns (only one of them is still laying), and a large white one we got a short while after that sadly died recently. Too much cold and wet :<

However, we did recently get four Guineafowl chicks, which are now almost fully grown (no photos sorry). They're quite different, very timid and stubborn about remaining so. To make space for them, we've made a new shed for the chooks and moved the fowl into their old coop. Supposedly they're for pest control, but it's still more money and maintenance to deal with. I don't know how my folks are going to cope if I ever leave. So much for living the quiet life :V

Today, my dad and I finished the chicken coop, and we moved the chicks into it, (Also, if you're wondering, foghorn, brownie, and the black sex link are 1 month old, gold and silver are 3 weeks, some people on backyardchickens have moved chicks as young as 3 weeks old into a coop and it was fine.) and right now their exploring. =D

I got an incubator from brinsea so i could hatch chicks recently, and in a few day's i am getting the eggs to put in it.

can you please use imgur or something for your pictures because it's kind of annoying to have to click on all these thumbnails
other than that though, :3
