Why on earth does his cap say Curly Brace on it?
Because Pixel named him Curly Brace before renaming him to Quote.

Why did Sue tell Quote that 'Curly Brace' was not a language they use on this island?
Because in the Japanese Doukutsu Monogatari everyone spoke Japanese and the hat was written in English. The English translation confused the matter a bit.

So then logically, he would no longer have Curly Brace on his hat.

You would think so, but Pixel said that Quote's (not Curly's) hat read "CURLY BRACE".

More specifically, Quote was named "Curly Barce" in the beta version, but then Pixel decided to remake the whole thing so now we're stuck with a dimwitted gutless kid who can't talk beyond the plantation password.

Is it really his cap? They were teammates during the war, maybe Curly gave it to Quote, or he took it himself. Hell, I even proposed a minor change for the movie script, with Curly taking the cap after the fight in Wineglass, then returning it in the Labyrinth...

He can talk, only you can't "hear" him. You know, he has to tell Jack about Toroko, or Kazuma about the bomb ingredients, or Jenka about the Red Flowers, or even Curly that he's not a killer robot (filthy liar). It's the same thing like, for instance, in the Pokemon games.

Exactly. Quote's speech is implied, not specified.

How about the "it was a joke" line?

I'm well aware that he can talk. Thanks anyway. <_<

So then if Mimigas spoke japanese in the japanese version, and Quote's hat was in english, wouldn't it make some sense to write curly brace in japanese on his hat when mimigas speak english?
That way only around fifty percent of some population would know what it truly meant. Better yet, just write 'Quote' in japanese. Nobody can argue with you unless they read katakana, hirigana, etc.

Because writing curly brace in English on Quote's hat has become the standard of late. (at least in fanart and some fanfiction too)

How would you write "Curly Brace" in Japanese, anyway?

Thanks. And now, as stated in the link, let the controversy begin: Pixel stated that "CURLY BRACE" was written on the hat. But why the past tense? It may mean that the writing was present only in the past, ie. in the Beta. Or, it could be a confirmation of the fact that, in the game, the writing really was there. Or, of course, it's a translation error. Now what?

Heh, sorry. I suppose it was an example of this.

Pixel stated that "CURLY BRACE" was written on Quote's hat, not Curly's.

...I don't think he said anything about Curly having a hat with her name on it in that post.

...And Curly dosen't wear a hat anyways.

The Curly Brace from the beta is a HE. That's who I meant in my previous post.

Well, Pixel could (and I'm saying could) call the beta's protagonist Quote. Oh, and here's another theory: The writing was on the cap during the War, but got erased before Quote woke up in the Start Point.

You mean that "erase" theory? Well:
Fact: The translated Pixel's statement said that the writing on Quote's cap was "CURLY BRACE". PLeace note the Past Simple.
Fact: Every single image of Quote in the game shows that there's in fact nothing on the cap.
Fact: Quote spent the past 10 years unconscious, and therefore immovable.
Fact: When he regains consciousness, he's in a cavern with water dripping on him.
Therefore, my theory is that during the War, the cap really read "CURLY BRACE", but after those 10 years worth of waterdrops washed off the writing (however that's possible). I imagine that she wrote it on his cap in a "Remember me" gesture using a marker pen, thus enabling it to be erased. That's somewhat logical, because, frankly, how often can you buy a cap with your gf's name on it? Of course, when you have the money to build an entire robot army, you can surely afford customly printed piece of accessory, so... yeah.

I still think she's more like a sister...

The flaw in your theory, though, is that several people note writing on Quote's cap in the game.
