Oh, I've heard mixed answers to it. Some say 3 months, others say 3 years, some 30 years, now 210 days? I don't think anyone's actually set foot on Mars yet, as far as I can recall.

No, but we've sent rovers there, so we should know. I do know that it's long enough to necessitate rescheduling a launch to 14 months later if it's missed, because the positioning makes that much of a difference.

I just borrowed the number from the plan shown on the website. And yeah, they have to wait for optimum timing. But you'd know that already, if you had played Kerbal Space program. :p
