At 2AM this morning, June 12th, 2016, the worst mass shooting in United States history occurred at a gay nightclub in Orlando. Fifty people were killed and fifty more were injured. The attack has been heralded as the worst act of terrorism since 9/11.

Here's what we know about Omar Mateen, the shooter who carried out this atrocious crime:
  • His father, Seddique Mir Mateen, was an Islamic faith leader and even a presidential candidate in Afghanistan. He supported the United States and condemned ISIS.
  • Omar Mateen had been contacted three times by the FBI after expressing radical behavior and ideas, but he had not been taken into custody due to a lack of evidence. He was also on the FBI Watch List.
  • Mateen pledged allegiance to the leader of ISIS in a 911 call shortly before he carried out the attacks. In the same call he mentioned the Boston Marathon Bombers.
  • Mateen expressed an extreme hatred for homosexuality in the past.
This makes one thing very evident - the United States' counter-terrorism strategies CONTINUE to be as inadequate and ineffective as they were before 9/11. Mainly because rather than make possible invasive investigations based on plausible evidence and concern to be safe, the government would rather avoid offending people who might get angry over an "unwarranted" investigation.

People in the United States like to reiterate that terrorism is not a purely Islamic idea. However, it is extremely clear that Islamic Fundamentalists in the Middle East are attempting to wage war on the western nations through terrorism. I understand completely that there are a large number of Muslims who do not support Fundamentalism or jihad. However, many people in the Middle East, and even some countries, support fundamentalism and harbor aggression towards the United States.

Now if you don't know what Islamic Fundamentalism is, it's a belief system that has existed for a long time but was re-envisioned by Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader of Iran during and after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. He called both the United States and Israel "two devils" which Allah had sent to punish members of Islam for not staying true to the "fundamentals" of Islamic faith. Khomeini took it a step further and said that these threats must be extinguished before Allah can forgive the Muslim people. This ideology is the source of radical Islamic belief, regardless of a terrorist faction's allegiance to Iran, and is the root of attacks like the one in Orlando.

And yet our government CONTINUES to remain inactive. Obama is already saying crap like "We're to blame for this massacre, not Islamic terrorism." He's just too wishy-washy. He claims he's making a stance against terrorism, but even if he is, he's failing miserably. Trump is looking like a better and better alternative to Hillary Clinton. She's going to be just as much of a pushover as Obama. Now I DESPISE Trump. He's racist and he's an asshole and he's going to ruin our country. But at least he won't take shit from terrorist groups.

We should have removed hostile Islamic Fundamentalist groups from existence a very long time ago. We should be occupying countries suspected having ties to fundamentalist groups. We should be removing fundamentalist or pro-terrorist groups from political power, including Bashir al-Assad, ISIS, the Taliban, and the Iranian government.

Since these monsters have decided to wage war against our country and others, and since they refuse to show themselves and prefer to operate under the guise of the average civillian, they should be subject to no mercy and the full might of the United States military.

Besides, if we marched into full scale war, we could create more jobs and boost the economy. And we could stop oppression and terrorism in the Middle East. It's a win-win for the U.S. overall.

(As long as we win).

I always question why so many people are homophobic, its obvious that we were created with same sex relationships in mind, thats why assholes and mouths exist (and before somebody tries to argue that those have multiple functionalities, so does a penis)

That being said, fuck terrorists. We get it, you don't agree with out ideas, no need to murder people over it.

But Donald said his prayers go out to the families of the victims, meaning he's being somewhat supportive of gay people. I think hes starting to change.

That's called being flexible, he's appealing to the homophobic, racist crowd, and then he's appealing to the politically correct crowd. Bam, instant win, everyone is happy /s

The fact that this attack was a hate crime is an another matter entirely from the fact that it was a terrorist act. And this is coming from someone who is gay. Homophobia and radicalism are two major reasons why I hate the existence of organized religions (yes, there are radical Christians and even Jews who resort to terrorism).

I'm not entirely sure that there's anything more that can be done to stop homophobia other than censorship of bias, which people in the USA won't tolerate. (Because we're all biased fucks).

But Islamic fundamentalism has a rather large and violent backing. There are little to no organized anti-LGBT terrorist groups who want to wage war on the LGBT community by murdering innocent civilians. It's easier to fight radical Islamic terrorism than it is to fight anti-LGBT ideas since so many religions are against homosexuality. Plus, you can arrest or kill armed combatants and people who are planning/suspected of planning a terrorist attack, and even people who simply exhibit radical ideas. You can't arrest or kill people for hating LGBTs. That's just the way it is.

As a result, our country's focus should be on countering the much greater threat of terrorism. Besides, I can ignore someone yelling at me to go to hell. I can't ignore someone putting a gun to my head. If anti-LGBT terrorism becomes common and this is the start of a much longer and larger threat, then I'd say we need to address the problem of LGBT hate. But for now, we should tackle the direct threat to life first, and that's radical Islam and radical Islamic terrorist groups like ISIS and the Iranian government.

We're getting severely off topic here. I will say this though: I would not have a problem with letting people over here if they were screened for diseases like they used to be at Ellis Island and if they had to pay taxes before they could receive government aid. And if they weren't a priority before literally every other racial group for financial aid. My parents applied for aid from Social Services so we could get a new Central AC/heating unit because our's broke and my sister has heat-induced illnesses (that means she could be hospitalized if exposed to heat for too long). If my father was of Latin American ethnic origin, he'd qualify immediately, but because he's not, he has to wait possibly months for any feedback as to whether or not he qualifies. And this is what he was TOLD by the lady at Social Services.

EDIT:

i'd say don tron has a pretty average sized nose
Very off topic.

I think the past has shown that just having America go in and fight directly and then occupy a country creates a huge power vacuum when they leave, which causes new fundamentalist or pro-terrorist groups to form. The current plan of action regarding ISIS should be applauded.

Which is why this time we have to stay there, set up a government and make sure it works before we leave.

Something has to be done, and if that means we have to stay there for a really long time then that's what should be done. What else can we do at this point other than sit there and keep suffering from constant threat of annihilation from terrorist attacks?

The ideal scenario is for America to assist the nations in question in fighting their own war. This is what is happening in the fight against ISIS right now. It is slow going for sure, but it creates less problems in the long run. Just look at the mess that is Afganistan to understand just how ineffective and damaging the alternative is.

That's because we basically disposed of a government and then left. If we stayed there and made sure the new government was stable, in control, and chosen by the people (whether they want a socialist state or whatever), it'd go a lot better than Afghanistan.

the afghani government we installed wasn't just disposed of. We did our best to train the soldiers of the governments we installed. But it was clear that the longer we were involved the worse off it would get.
