"So what is this new thread now??" you may be asking. Or maybe you aren't, but I'll answer the question anyway
The idea here is that each month, I provide a different game for us to play. They may be new games or old games, popular games or obscure games, but overall they should be easy to get and I'll provide as much information about how to find them as possible.

Generally speaking, the ones I pick will have some kind of score or challenge component. I may also add special conditions or some other twist to make the challenge more interesting if I see fit. You post your best results in the thread and we'll have a little friendly competition as a community :]
Playing gets you AbritraryPoints, or AP, which is completely useless in almost every way.
I just made this up off the top of my head so it's subject to change but my idea was as follows for point payouts:
  • Participating in a monthly challenge - +2 AP
  • Beating Noxid's final score in a challenge (provided he plays) - +1 AP
  • Best score of the month - +4 AP
  • 2nd best score of the month - +2 AP
  • 3rd best score of the month - +1 AP
    (Updated by DT)
Proof of your score isn't required, but it may be appreciated. It's not like anybody has anything to gain by cheating :p
As well, you're allowed to make as many submissions as you want to improve your score in any given month.
I figure this will be a fun little way to maybe try some games you might not have otherwise, or to bring some fresh entertainment to old ones.

Scores can now be found at the above document. Let me know if something looks wrong or is missing. I put this together really quickly so it doesn't show the actual points yet.

I can totally see somebody getting a higher score than this. I think my mouse sensitivity is too high for this...

Glad to see we're off to a good start ;]
Here's my score to set a baseline. I got a bit better once but I forgot to save it.

This is a little off topic, besides the fact we're on a "good start"...but, am I the only person who finds game versions (example: version 0.3.4) decimals...soothing?

Good idea, sounds like the same thrill as the shmup tournaments we do but just for funsies. I'd suggest maybe a smaller time window than a month, that seems a tad extensive for a game that takes roughly ten seconds to play. I feel like we'll all tire of it after a week or two anyways.

also get on my level

Edit: By the way, is there a way to make this post editor just stick to bbcode instead of embeddeding images and quotes once you edit a post?
Has it never occurred to you to press the BBCode mode button on the top left?

Really? Haven't seen him around here lately, hope he hasn't gone for good.

While that is true for this game, perhaps Noxid deliberately chose a simple game such as this one Since April is starting up soon. If more time-consuming games are featured in subsequent months, then I think a month will be okay. And besides, it will be easy on some of the people here (myself included during this time) who are busy, so it'll be easier for them to find time to perfect their score if they want to get real competitive.

Speaking of which, current CSTSF 2013 high score:

Fun little distraction. Dangerously addictive. Also, it makes me happy that it's a java game because that means that we lowly mac users can play it, too. I wouldn't be surprised if it is in fact a product of Wedge's hands because the music is rather awesome. @Hayden, I've been wondering about having not seen him around much lately, too. Maybe he wants to be able to qualify for "Best Return" in the next round of Kanpachis. No?

I've chalked up a time of 26.8 on my trackpad, but haven't bothered to upload an image yet since it's not anywhere near a high score.

I'll see how things go with the timeline, I honestly had no idea what kind of activity I might expect to see here so I went pretty wide on the timeline since that also means less work for me to come up with new games

Anyway, if it does go well I'll consider making it weekly or biweekly. Weekly seems a bit close to me since that was the shump tournament schedule and that was rather pressing.

Agree'd, fortnightly would probably give the best balance of participation to interest to variety to results
