I've been working on this for a few weeks now... and I'm finally ready to make a thread about it.
It's sort of a remake of NES Metroid using Cave Story's Engine.
I don't really have much done yet, but here are some pictures.

The morph ball doesn't really work like it's supposed to yet.
I tried to do something with setting and unsetting flags but it won't work right.
Bombs don't quite work like they're supposed to either.
The "Bombs" are really the machine gun with short range and
Noxid's shotgun hack.
The letters and numbers used are actually from NES Metroid's font.
Also, I have most of the songs from NES Metroid I need but there are still a few I don't have.
Some of the graphics are likely to change later.
Like the health bar.

I fail to see the use of a ball made to get you into small places if you're around the same size as it.

Wow, this looks awesome. I have never played Metroid or any game with Samus other than Super Smash Bros but...

Speaking of Super Smash Bros, I just had a brilliant idea for a mod :)

I plan on making tiles that LOOK like they'd fit you when you're in morph ball mode and find a way to make it so that you can only fit in them when you are.

I plan on fixing that, but all of the capital letters for "LOAD" don't actually fit those annoying boundaries.

I do like me some Metroid. I'll give this a shot once you have a download link, but I don't think it's necessary to add "Story" to the title. I'd say Nestroid is fine, but that's your choice.

Goodness, they didn't even give any details. It's one thing to assume things will be crappy as a defense mechanism and quite another to immediately shoot it down like that.

I might change that. It didn't really sound right to me when I named it with story on it.
Edit: I can't seem to get morph ball to really work. It changes the way the player looks, it gives you Bombs and removes Power Beam... but when I set Flag 304 from the item it doesn't seem to affect npcs with that flag at all.

Sorry? I'm pretty sure we aren't really the "first" ones to think of it either.

Realtalk: Thanks... I'm kind of stuck on the morph ball thing because it's a big part of the game and it messes up my map making. Maybe until I get a better knowledge of asm, morph ball will just have no real purpose.

I feel like it would look better if you made your name smaller and had it fit completely under "NESTROID", but that's just me.

Mod looks pretty good so far, though I'm not sure you'll be able to implement certain things.

I'll probably do that and add the version info as well.
