so i just got the freeware version, and am thinking about getting the 3DS eshop version. but, i've ran into one BIG problem in the freeware version: all of the supposed japanese text turns into jibberish like this: i§ì‚Ɉ«ˆÓ‚ª–³‚¢‚±‚Æ‚ð‚²—‰ð‚‚¾‚³‚¢j. does anyone know how to fix the fonts or anything? i really wanna play without seeing random stuff like that. :( at least it does some funny things, like when i fell down from the first cave instead of "..." i got "H I" and when i first talked to king he said "U U E E E E B"

Did you extract the zip? Do you have the japanese language pack installed on your machine?

You're not missing fonts, it's just that the original Japanese Cave Story scripts are non-unicode, so you'll need to set your system locale to "Japanese" and restart your computer for the game to render text properly.

It's good to see people are still finding and playing this game. Even with nicalis' support, it seems amazing to me that this game has held on for so long.

I totally agree with you!
It's been almost ten years, and it's still alive. Seeing people discover it and go through what you had gone through and feel those emotions and everything... There's something poetic and satisfying about it.

unrelated to the topic at hand, I suggest you stop putting useless gifs in your posts, as it's

You'll learn that after our experience with younger members we are not a very accepting community if you prove that you don't know how to act on a forum.

Alright I think that's enough discussion about age and behaviour.
