The one thing I didn't like as much was that the graphics lacked the detail and finesse his earlier games had.

He's clearly going for a certain aesthetic with the art style. I mean if Pixel felt that the game wasn't looking how he wanted then I'd imagine that he wouldn't stop until he was satisfied.

According to "The Indie Megabooth" (which has a connection to Playism showing Kero Blaster at PAX East):

"In Kero Blaster, developed by Cave Story creator Studio Pixel, you play as a frog employed by the tiny C&F corporation, a small venture that manufactures teleporters. Strange black creatures have started taking teleporters offline, and your feline boss wants you to clean up the mess.

It seems that the story has changed from the alien kidnapping of Kaeru's feline lover, to that of saving a business, which is reasonably believable as it fits well with the new trailer.

it took me a while to get used to the controls because unlike cave story, holding the jump button slows you down when you are descending also and this is vital to making some jumps

it was good tho, but short. I got both endings. I wonder what kind of creature the boss is. Maybe some kind of dog?

If Pixel/Playism released the prologue on iOS I would definitely get that as well, because I'm a lot more interested to find out how Pixel implemented the controls for a touchscreeen rather than how he did it for a keyboard/gamepad.

I've only figured out how to make the Jetpack, Jacket and Bubbler work. None of the other weapons are being added correctly...not implemented???

Even when I already had the latest version of DirectX installed, the error came for me. But downloading the DLL file itself and putting it in the game's folder works.

It also carries a significant amount of risk. Said dll could contain trojans. It is much better to grab the file from a program that is known for including it, just FYI.
