Doukutsu HackInstaller format, if you don't know how to use that or OllyDbg to apply this then you aren't cool enough to be allowed to use it.

 

Neat.
But I still don't know how to use the assembler...
Not like I'm making a mod or anything though, but neat all the same.

You don't need to know how to use the assembler. It uses the autohacker; a bunch of text files with offsets and hex pairs ready to be pasted onto your executable.

This is a hack that I made before the assembler existed.

 

Autohacker Version 2 <--anyone who wants it. You also need this.

Specifications:
<IMG command hack
Title.bmp must be 320x240
<IMGFILE will set TimgFILE.bmp (or pbm) over the screen.
The "tag" for the file name must be exactly 4 characters
<IMG0000 will remove the image overlay
Transparency can be used (colour 000000[black])
Limitations:
Cannot use Enemy:Polish
Title screen rects are optimised as hell so have fun changing that
Uses redunant 2nd <FAC command for TSC portion

Looks like a very useful hack.

For "Title.bmp must be 320x240", do you mean TimgFILE.bmp? Or is the <IMG hack connected in such a way to the title screen hack that you're required to use a 320x240 title.bmp?

Oh look, I used <FAC #2 already. Looks like I need to rewrite some ASM.... *goes off to mumble to self*

Also, cult, if you don't know how to use the Assembler, read the manual that's included with it (Userguide.html). I didn't write it so that people would just look at it and say, "hey look a file that I'm never going to double-click". Anyway the Autohacker is the one you want, not the Assembler, so this doesn't even matter.

 

In order to make most efficient use of resources, I've hybridized the "title" image slot of the graphics memory to load title.bmp whenever the title screen is needed, and to load the overlay image whenever it's needed. This saves on RAM by reusing the same graphics data for two things.. but if your title.bmp doesn't take up the full size then it will just get overlaid on top of the image that was there previously and that might produce unexpected behaviour.

It's more or less recommended as a safeguard against something weird happening. Now that I think about it I guess it shouldn't need to be, but for some reason I seem to recall having a problem with it.

 

Yes, this is a nice hack. Glad you released it.
It's nice to be in a hacking community where we can build off eachother, rather than fighting to be the "best".

I don't know how long it could be though, do to ram issues (Maybe? I haven't looked at how this hack works, so I'm not sure how it allocates stuff)

 

I actually was begging nox to make this, I am working on a mod that pretty much required this.

Yeah, for like, a year or more. He just released it because people were pestering.
