Ib (pronounced "Eeb," similar to “Eve”) is a freeware horror adventure game by kouri made in RPG Maker 2000.
A young girl named Ib visits an art gallery with her parents.
While observing the many exhibits, she suddenly realizes she is alone.
And in her search for others, she finds things awry in the gallery...
The game is focused on exploration and puzzle-solving.
There are no battles, and it does not demand quick reflexes.
It's designed to be accessible to all kinds of players, so enjoy.

So yeah this is a pretty cool game. It's like yume nikki if it actually had some gameplay. It reminds me a lot of the old school resident evils, with the atmosphere and the puzzles.

You can get it from the game's site: http://vgboy.dabomst...om/other/ib.htm

Also there are 5 endings but I recommend after you playthrough the game that you just youtube them or something since you're probably going to have to start from the beginning to get another ending.

As an RPG Maker user, seeing the mapping of this game hurts me deeply.

But meh, it seems okay. Maybe I'll play it.

Maybe.

Finally there's a thread for this, I've been considering making my own for a while now.
I can't recommend this game enough, it's super awesome. Reminds me a bit of Yume Nikki Atmosphere+Amnesia Puzzle Solving, but harder.

Also Hiino quit yer whinin it's better than anything you've ever made >:T

What? I wasn't, but NOW I'm whining D:

Why would you ever say that to meeeeeee D:

But yeah you're right, since I never released any of my games (aside from those made in 48 hours, but obviously they lack quality).

Also I only talked about what I could see without playing the game, i.e. the maps. Like I said, I'm a pretty experienced RPG Maker user, and there are rules as to what a good mapping is.
But considering that this game is meant to be surreal (as Yume Nikki, yeah), it does not really matter.

However, this game (Ib) is of the kind I see at least once a month. Games inspired by Yume Nikki, focused on ambiance and puzzle solving, are legion. Yume Nikki was the first one I ever tried (and what's more, the first RPG Maker game I have ever played) and the concept was radically different from what I was used to see in indie games before. So it deeply affected me and instantly became one of my favourite indie games ever. I'm also occasionnally enjoying YN fangames, sort of. But aside from those, the "mysteriouscreepy dark ambiance with no battles and only exploration/puzzle solving" concept has become too represented in RPG Maker games (and elsewhere too *coughLimbocough*), so now I'm kinda meh.

RPG Maker games like Ao Oni are more interesting imo, because the ambiance and the puzzle-solving are enforced by the invincible-immortal-one-hit-killer-scary-teleporting-and-multiplying thing that is chasing you.

Hope there will be a lot of options to respond not just "I do" "I don't", since I want to troll the game a little :p

I finally played Ib today...
Thank you GIR for bringing up this game! It was well worth the time...
It's like what I wished Yume Nikki would have done...

My experience :
The first quarter before I met Garry was a real horror experience for me. A journey of abstract terrors D: I was spooked a jumpy... So alone...

After meeting Garry though the game stopped being scary imo. But, on the flipside, there was a sense of purpose now. There was no wastful/boring dialogue, and I was always interested in what would happen next...

When I met Mary though, I had mixed feelings. This was probably my downfall :p I continued all the way to the end of the game [I didn't know it at the time, but was about to finish with the True End!]

But, I REALLY wanted to find a way to give Mary a chance... So I ended up replaying from the midpoint of the game, looking for some way to battle her fate. [I guess she was a little bonkers, looking back but she wasn't given much of a chance... @_@]

After a lot of effort I finally managed to get my first ending as Mary's ending >< lol... But, I had a hard time just letting Garry end up like that >< So after getting all the other endings, I went back and finally gave Garry and Ib their happy ending. I think I would have been more satisfied if I'd just kept going getting the true ending first >< Ah well.

I'll rate the game an overall 8/10. [9 is highest I've given]. Though this could be the best rpgmaker horror game so far...

For comparison here are the few RPGmaker Games that I've rated 8 or higher :
8 The Longing Ribbon <horror
8 Necropolis Part I*
8 Desert Nightmare (English) <horror
8.5 a blurred line*
8.5 Star Stealing Prince Full V.1.0
9 Love and War Ep1*
9 Forever's End*
9 The Way
*means the game ends

Now a special treat~ I had no idea how popular this game must have been. I spent a couple hours sorting through some of my favorite videos, to make an Ib youtube extravaganza for anyone interested :D
(Warning lots of videos)

Enjoy! (Spoilers ahead! Ye be warned)
Let it begin! Ib Title Theme (Orchestrated) + fan art...

Watch this one if you're a fan of Higurashi~ otherwise it is optional (Ib MAD OP)

Now for the feature presentation... Return to the Gallery with Ib. (This is the one I <3)

Hiino, nice LP; actually you were easy to understand (Well... except for the French opening @_@; missed most of that lol)

At the dolls...When you had Garry's... accident... lol Was actually hoping you'd keep going xD
Poor Garry... lol ;_;

It was fun seeing the game once more...

oh btw the F12 button should reset the game instantly when playing RPGmaker games, might come in handy in the future~

There's a new version of Ib... 1.04 :
http://vgperson.com/games/ib.htm

Over a year after the release of version 1.02 (and a little less than a year after the release of my translation), Ib has been updated to version 1.04. (1.03 was an intermediate version: 1.02 with smaller filesize, and it was only available on compilation CDs and stuff.)
I may post a complete list of changes later, but here are the big ones:

- The music is compressed, so the filesize is smaller. (About time.)
- There are new paintings and conversations to find in old areas.
- A new branch is available that leads to two new endings.
- After any good ending (read: Ib escapes), you can start the game over, keeping track of your endings and such.
- After you beat the game once and continue as mentioned above, a new dungeon becomes accessible in the final area.

I haven’t tested old saves with 1.04, but if you have an old save just before an ending, you might be able to save some time if you want to see the extra dungeon ASAP.

I tried to test this as quickly yet thoroughly as possible, so please report any issues with missing text or the like.
EDIT: And a fanart that caught my eye...

I really enjoyed this game before. I'll look forward to playing the updated version in a month or so. Also, that fan art is really very cool but I don't remember Ib being blonde. Meh, whatevs. But oh man, those dolls and mannequins... especially those dolls...

She's not blonde. Mary's blonde. Ib's a brunette ingame, and in the fanart.

Ah wonderful, I'll gladly revisit Guertena's world!

Thanks for the heads up X-Calibar!

EDIT:
Oh hey, 1.05 already!

Guys, sorry for the double post, but I found a glitch in the English translation. Does anyone here know how to contact VGPerson in order to report it?

Re-edit:
Oh right, no more double posting on this board...

Couldn't find any means to contact him on his site, so no.

By the way, if you want to unlock everything in this new version you have to play the whole game at least four times. I've been able to see most of what is new with two playthroughs, but I still plan on doing the other two eventually.
