CSTSF Modding Competition 2017 - Submission and Discussion Thread

Old topic!
The last post in this thread is over 60 days old. Posting in this thread will be considered a bump, so please make an attempt to be courteous if you go ahead with it.

If the last post is over 6 months old, it may instead be a better idea to start a new topic. If you aren't sure about what to do, feel free to ask a staff member for help, or try to locate a 'general questions'-type thread if it exists in this (sub-)forum.

How about you're allowed to ASM, but any ASM hacks must be your own and made after the start of the contest.
This is more fair IMO
That's just MORE unfair to people who don't know assembly. 90% of hacker story was written after the contest began by myself so this barely would have been a hindrance at all.

which is what zxin may be aiming at.
If I haven't explained that that iswhat I'm aiming for enough, please shoot me. My address is ***.

Exactly. This actually could be fun as a personal challenge; only using your own brand new original hacks on a mod, which is something I plan to do at some point.

Yeah but I want to show off my ASM in contests so people actually play my mod,
work on your damn fundamentals oh my god dude, the fact that people don't want to play your mod is not because you don't have enough hacks

Yeah but there's no way that anyone would want to play my mod outside of hacks. I simply cannot perfect anything else. Before I learned ASM I tried everything I could, and my mod just turned out to be complete shit. At least ASM allows me to make my mods even remotely good

that's why people are yelling at you to get out of your comfort zone
it's not like you'll just magically be good the first time you try but if you never practice then you're fucking yourself

I'm gonna clear up a few things now so that this doesn't go on forever

-This contest is allowed to happen, unchangeable exe or not, there will be no 'official' ruling against it

-It's up to the entrants to decide if they want to spend time here, and how that may cut into their participation of whatever's going to happen after it

-Seeing as there aren't even any prizes on the line there's nothing for anyone to to gain from getting aggravated over this aside from maybe their dignity

k have fun

Thank you very much.
Again, the contest will be continuing. It seems this year we're going small. @HaydenStudios and @Miccs are you still interested in judging this year?

Woah hold on, I think a lot more people are going to participate in Dunc's summer 2017 modcon simply because of timing schoolwork out of the equation.

I'm going to attempt both, and I feel the others (who are very few) who have shown interest shouldn't be afraid to put a "simple" mod in with that contest as well.

Overall this is a challenge contest/warmup I guess. There will be like 3 people participating, and you can fucking have multiple contests in a year.

HaydenStudios ... are you still interested in judging this year?
Yes, I am still interested in being a judge. The same time constraints listed before still apply, so I probably won't actually play any early entries that may be submitted until probably early May, but feel free to give me any type of briefing you'd like.

Cool. There will be a short judging period after the contest deadline.

I don't see why i wouldn't have time to play a few mods and tell what i think about them, it'd give me something to do.

I took some time to muse over this before deciding to say anything in formal writing.
TL;DR Nice try kid, but you gotta get up to our level if you wanna play with the big boys,
Your post kind of reminds me of this

Whelp. My short entry is nearly done. I just have to design one more level and apply the final touches.

I would love to submit but I can't even start working on it until June, my computer is stuck with Linux :(
If the deadline stays as it is, I can be a judge.

I'd love for you to be able to enter the contest, and I have been thinking of extending the deadline for people who are busy now.
@Miccs @HaydenStudios what do you think?

I don't have any particularly strong opinions, but you could consider extending the deadline to late May since a lot of people will be busy until early May. I'll probably still be able to serve as a judge, but I will have a little bit less free time starting late May.

Okay. The contest now ends a month later. (June 15th)
This should hopefully be enough time for everybody to really flesh out their mods before submitting them. Especially you, @TheCyberSleuth. ;)

If it means everybody gets a chance to make their mods better.
