Hello followers,
as one of the Staff Members I'm here to beg for YOUR help.

Since this is a community site, it's just logical that we consider the opinions of the community. So if you wanna support the Tribute Site & the community you may tell us what you wanna see in... let's called it "the next version" of the Tribute Site.
things like:

  • More EXAMPLE
  • More EXAMPLE
  • More EXAMPLE
  • More EXAMPLE
  • More EXAMPLE

I hope you understand what I try to say and you show off some ideas :D

Best regards,
Schokobecher & S. P. Gardebiter

These are just examples... just ignore them :D

The Problem with the activity is well-known.
but take a closer look:
People visit the Tribute Site, they find what they search and are gone. no one ever notices the Forums.
So if we design the Main Page more community friendly, people gonna stay for a while.

I don't get what exactly you mean by options 1,2,4 and 5 though.

How about we play deathmetal on the front page and have huge arrows pointing to the forums that say 'CLICK HERE OR DIE MUTHAFUCKA!!!'

Too much?

LMFAO, I don't think that would fit.

Anyway, I think we should add more downloads. And maybe a new text at the frontpage, that redirects to the Cave Story Community.

I'll start on the redesign later today.

One of the more important things is for all nav to be at the top of the page so that people do not have to scroll down to get to a link.

JacobX891 said:
Well, instead of having the link say 'discussion forum', we can make it say 'more Cave Story here' or something like that.
We could also add the list of the very few completed mods and the ones that still have the prospect of finishing (which include but are not limited to: Jenka's Nightmare [by Shmitz], The Dark Platform [by Dragonboots], etc.), and have them link to the threads in the forums that they're in. That might work. Have it say 'CS Mods' and some kind of icon that I haven't thought of yet that would fit.
We will be limited in bandwidth so the mods most likely cannot be hosted, though we can link to them.

That was a suggestion to improve the Search Engine -_-

What I found wrong:

1. A bunch of searches that I tried didn't get me any results, although I was sure those phrases were posted before by someone. This was tried a long time ago, though, so I dunno if it's been fixed yet.

2. The search engine brings result only topic-wise. It's really hard to look for something you want in a topic like Jenka's Nightmare or the Movie Script without a search engine, which isn't helping.

3. The searches are inaccurate at times.

We're talking about the site not about the forum.
SkyeWelse already told you people about the forum, there will be no updates -_-
Read before posting.

About hosting Mods and that stuff...
I already took care 'bout that .

About the Design:
I like it. keep working on it :)
At the moment I'am not really sure what to use.
1. option:
Leaving it all static

2. option:
Go and code something own

3. option:
Using some nice CMS

all options have pros and contras.

€:
About the Forums / Updates
We could get rid of the old Forums and start a new one :D
There many Bridges for vB :).
But the Tribute Site comes first.

At the moment I see no advantage in creating a database driven site, also I have a disliking for CMS. I like downloading the file from the ftp, editing it, then re-uploading it.

Though I think I should combine Characters, Bestiary, Items, Music, and Weapons into "Game Information" and split it into subnav. Then add the Guides/FAQs nav item (forgot that one :)).

Awww not so egotistical :o
Since You / we are not alone.

like I already said any option having pros and contras.

Pros for a CMS would be:
- easy Content building (for everyone :) )
- replacement for the forums ( about 90% )
- highly modable
- community could start bringing up own content

Contras would be:
- not always lightweight ( highly depends on modules / plugins)
- need to be up-to-date

Anyways, don't take it personaly... i'am just a huge Fan of CMS's :o

also it could be that we gonna move in the next 1-2 month to an own vServer
so the Traffic/Space Limits wouldn't be up-to-date anymore :D

Throw the entirety of Dreamweaver into a CMS, then we'll talk. :) :D

There are issues with everyone being able to edit the site. I get the idea that you want to turn the site into something like a wiki where anyone can edit it, but I have no idea how to do that without it looking like a wiki or more coding then I plan to put in. Sorry. :o

The best solution would be an updates thread where people can suggest updates for the site. I'll leave the text content untouched from the original when I am done, when there is enough approval for a specific change (from the forum members that is) then I will make that specific change to the site.

I could try to set up a CMS (not sure how to do it, never used them and someone else at my work sets them up), who will update it though? SkyeWelse asked for someone to help update the site and got no-one.

Egotistical? I just looked that word up. Not nice. :o

I think you get the/my thought on a cms wrong.
Normaly a CMS is build on diffrent User roles.
Like User, Autor, Admin and so on.
So Normal Users are able do e.g Upload Photos and that Stuff, Autors can create Content and so on.
So it's not "everyone" working on the site :D

who will update it though? SkyeWelse asked for someone to help update the site and got no-one.
Thats why I'am S. P. Gardebiters "Webdesign guy" :o (btw i hate design... code ftw D: )
So Me / S. P. Gardebiter would be updating the site. maybe other people too, depends.

You shouldn't take the "Egotistical" too serious :)
Don't get me wrong D:

I mainly want to try to keep the page layout in check so that the site doesn't get too messy, so I will need to be able to edit the site. (I have seen good sites turn into messy sites, so I know what I am talking about here)

Honestly we should just give you, SP, SkyeWelse, and myself the ftp details and be done with it. Though if you really want a CMS and are fine with me editing the pages via the ftp instead of CMS then no worries, I'll try to putting the CMS in. Though my laziness disagrees with me. :o

I only want to create and visually maintain the site. Being allowed to make updates would be a cool bonus since I make a habit of keeping track of CS related stuff, but I can live with pestering you guys for that. :o

Any free CMS out there that I can use?
