I'm a mac user, and I want to play Cave Story Mods and Ikachan, so I got VMware, and Installed windows 10 (because it's free) and CS and Ikachan Run REALLY slow. unplayably slow. My VM isn't underpowered, it can run games like cuphead and minecraft just fine, but it struggles with CS and Ika. Does anyone else have this issue?

Are you trying to run cave story in fullscreen? Selecting either full 64-bit or full-32 should fix that. Else, try messing with compatibility settings and see if that helps.

You right click the exe file and select properties.

CS runs kind of slow on modern PC hardware to be honest, like if I'm on "power saver mode" the game actually slows down. This isn't exactly related to your issue but the cause is the same: Cave Story is an old game that uses old graphics. Specifically it uses old graphics libraries, which is why it might actually run slower than newer games like cuphead and whatnot.

So it might be a combination of the VM + old graphics libraries that's slowing the game down.

Here's a video showing how slow it really is.
As you can see, the intro doesn't appear at all, and the text is unbearably slow, not just a little slow. another thing, the game works fine on other win10 pc's I've used.

The version I linked has WineD3D for Windows applied.

Here are the instructions I followed:
-copy ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll in the game's executable directory
-rename ddraw.dll, but make sure the file name is still 5 characters long (for instance ddfuk.dll)
-use an hex editor (for instance HxD) to replace all references to ddraw.dll with ddfuk.dll (or whatever you renamed the dll to).

What file do I edit with the hex editor?
