(If there is already a forum concerning this, then mods please delete this topic)

"Polar Star Overdrive"
(At OCRemix)
* Game: Cave Story (Studio Pixel, 2004, WIN)
* ReMixer(s): Joren de Bruin
* Composer(s): Daisuke Amaya
* Song(s): Last Battle
* Posted: 2009-04-05, evaluated by the judges

Simply amazing remix by Joren that everyone should listen to.

I'd also like to suggest another song to listen to from the same site if you haven't heard this one yet either, so here's the link:
Cave Story "Moon Rhapsody"

[To those who don't know, OCRemix is a community of remixers focused on video game tracks. They probably are best known for remixing an entire album for Capcom's Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (Jeez thats a long title..).
Of course, if you guys know about them already, please excuse my ignorance of your ignorance... Or would it be ignorance of your non-ignorance..?]

EDIT:
Sorry, forgot that the thread was meant for creations using PXTone and Orgmaker... Not really anywhere else to place this but the root thread "Discussion Forum."
Once again, sorry for the confusion!

Erm, no prob. But just to let you know, I happened to discover that piece of music only because I visit OCRemix regularly. I don't really know any of the remixers at all, so please don't thank me but that guy I mentioned earlier.. (What was his name again.....)

The point remains that you brought it to my attention. >_>
I barely frequent the internet.
So...
Yeah.
Odds of my stumbling upon this:

Aka, I have a better chance of finding God stoned in a back alley.

I guess I should also mention a recently uploaded remix of Chrono Trigger (should anyone be interested).
It's coincidentally the same type of upbeat style as the one I just suggested.
Chrono Trigger "Fight for Our Future!"
* Game: Chrono Trigger (Square, 1995, SNES)
* ReMixer(s): Nekofrog
* Composer(s): Nobuo Uematsu, Noriko Matsueda, Yasunori Mitsuda
* Song(s): Battle
* Posted: 2009-04-06, evaluated by the judges

Starts interestingly enough with some sfx and then.. Glorious....

Most people can't predict the outcome of thier breakfast.
Personally, I skip breakfast and base the outcome on lunch.
But, uh, yeah.

For the quote.

EDIT: on the topic of music, have a gander at this.
This.
Not really game-related, but it reminds me of Matt.
The guy who showed me Cave Story in that fateful accounting class.

Great song with good lyrics.
(on a side note, what kind of father calls their son a horse shoe crab? Does that even make sense?)

and uh, thanks for the seal... again..?

We should probably stop digressing so much.

Finally glad that someone was able to make a "modernized" version of that last battle theme.
Pixel is a great composer, but sometimes a sequencer like Orgmaker just doesn't do it justice, unless he was purposely aiming for the retro style type of music.

To digress a little further before we cease digressing into further digressions...

The lyrics in that are a little off.

It's actually:

The time my dad caught me a horse shoe crab
And I asked him if throwing it back into the sea
Would bring our luck back

Ah, ok.
Just another reason why I find YouTube so annoying..
Useful, but full of middle schoolers who can't spell and curse like sailors. And can't seem to use common sense. (If this group includes you, you've just been alienated!)

..I think we seriously should stop digressing. At this rate we'll crash into a sea of randomness and cause this topic to get locked up..

Alas, I'm a highschool graduate.
And I strive for proper grammar, spelling, and the correct aplication of cuss words.

Perhaps we should discuss this elsethread?

Sure after I suggest...

A song from this album.
Tales of Phantasia "The Unholy Wars"
* Game: Tales of Phantasia (Namco, 1994, SNES)
* ReMixer(s): Dhsu, Sixto Sounds
* Composer(s): Motoi Sakuraba, Ryota Furuya, Shinji Tamura
* Song(s): Fighting of the Spirit

(I usually refrain from describing songs I suggest because my descriptions often cannot fully describe how incredible the song is. This song is one such song.)

Meh, it's okay. Nowhere near as good as DJ Dain's version IMO.

Hmm.. I can't really say DJ Dain's is better, but I don't think Bruin's song is better either; they seem to be on par but with different styles.
The main differences are is that DJ Dain's version focuses on ambience and expertly uses synths, remaining true to the style of the original, in the 'intro' of the piece. Partway through, the interlude of piano and violin (I assume so, but viola would be nice since I play one also) adds to the retro flavor. The transition back to the synths are impressive and well 'orchestrated' (not sure if that term would work since.. well.. How about well written?).
Overall a somewhat 'light' piece due to the instruments used (again, not sure if that term is correct because I'm not sure if synths are considered instruments) but you can't really go loud with synths. This may be the only weakness of the piece, seeing (hearing really) that it is a remix true to it's roots (root?).

"Polar Star Overdrive" on the other hand utilizes more instruments notorious for 'noise'.
Great percussion track, synths retain some of the retro style, and the guitars add the artist's own flavor with imposing solos. The weakness in this piece is that it has very little development other than the beginning of the song, and ends as quick as it started. Loud enough with rock to give you the feel of adrenaline rush, but not as emotional/inspiring (not sure which word to use >.<) as DJ Dain's piece.

So I can't really say which is better because I don't think you can say one is better than the other (not that I'm telling you to or anything). I mean, in my opinion they are both great yet are different enough to be difficult to compare. So it depends on your taste in music.
