Ask, and ye shall receive? (didn't know if reviving old threads are allowed here)

From the looks of it, Nicalis has taken over the DS project via DSiWare. If anyone has access to the article, it'd be nice to see what's up.

What remake? There never was a rema--okay I'll stop with that.

Are there any parts of the game that really require 'touching' though? It seems like that feature would be kinda useless.

Unless you can do something like "Click and drag to shove it in Curly's mouth"

Fixed that for you, Doctor.
The appeal of Cave Story on the DS isn't the touch-screen ability, it's the portability. Yes, Cave Story has already been put on the PSP, but some people don't own one and some other people aren'y making money off it.

Nicalis, ya dun goofed.
Consequences will never be the same.

Oh hey I know, next they should make Cave Story into an RTS. Or a flight sim.

We're never gonna let them live it down, will we?

Art feels like fanwork to me. It doesn't make sense for them to remake the graphics yet again; if they did, who knows how long it would take?

Also, forgot to mention earlier news. Other than the DSiWare, Nicalis is listening to fans about some CS related things, though nothing is confirmed yet...

Nicalis has responded to the media clamoring for more info on Cave Story for the DS:

So officially speaking:
- Yes, there is a forthcoming Cave Story for DSiWare
- Yes, it's really awesome and has Pixel's blessing; he recently played it a few weeks back and loved it
- Yes, the EU version for WiiWare is still scheduled to be released; we commissioned Orioto to create this AWESOME Cave Story painting in celebration of both: Bang Bang
- And the game is actually DONE, we're currently in final testing internally

yeah, that art's just something GoNintendo received as fanart/ a nice desktop image from some guy, I guess. Not that it wouldn't be awesome to have a version of CS in that kind of style, even though I really really love the pixel graphics.

So yeah, I'm not planning on getting a DSi before the 3DS is out, hopefully I'll be able to grab it on there. I don't mind buying one of every official port CS ever has, lol. <3

Here's hoping it has all the good stuff of the WiiWare version, minus all the bad stuff. I honestly think that's not much at all to ask; working new music, correctly repeating songs, no map bugs, no freezing glitches, and we're all good. Now, if they HAPPENED to do anything new or special or touch up some of the things they could have done more with (curly mode >____> ) it'd be nice, but obviously I'm not holdin' my breath this time.

HAH! I knew it!

I'm also not holding up high exceptions this go around. That still won't stop me from getting the game first thing out of the gate!

Also, from another site, it doesn't look like the WiiWare graphics will be there, lest they add it in further down the line.

And if you're crazy enough to visit this site after all this time, Tyrone, it would be nice if you'd share some info about the patched WiiWare version...!

I don't think they could possibly fit the High-Res graphics on a portable screen.. They couldn't even manage it on a Wii.

So the touch screen is for prompts, dialogues, weapons, maps..that's convenient.

...I still wanna click and drag to jam it in Curly's mouth though.

He and Pixel (Cave Story's creator) have been bouncing a few ideas around; bringing more Pixel games to consoles, putting Cave Story on more consoles, tweaking the pre-existing WiiWare version of the game, and tooling around with the very different, rarely seen Cave Story Beta.
OMFG.

I don't get the appeal of the Wii remake to begin with. I just pirated the OST.

The wii remake had the appeal of the NEW graphics and the NEW soundtrack, whereas the DS remake will have....

...well it's going to be on the DS. Like a homebrew port, but you have to pay.
