Hey, guys I made a weapon hack! I changed the blade into a melee weapon! (Level 3 is the same).
Besides that, the game is the same. The included Profile.dat will let you test it out in hell pretty quickly.

EDIT: I fixed the hitrect issue! It now hits where it should! Check it out!

Hm... The only issue I see, is that if you press shoot while falling, the blade will stay in the same place, which isn't a big deal really, but can be fixed. I don't know much about ASM, but can you make the bullet's postion equal to the player's plus a few pixels. Player X + 3 basicly?

Improvement points:
1) You have removed the up/down modes. This is sloppy. You can slash a blade up.
2) Level three is still king, you could make it a whirl attack or something instead.
3) The hitrects are a bit off somehow. Damage happens behind you, not at the end of your blade.
4) It doesn't compensate for jumping/falling etc.



Nice work though, especially for (I assume) one of your first hacks.

@Matt: I don't see that as a huge problem.

@Lace: You're right, those are huge problems. I'll work on that when I've got time. I'll fix the up/down thing, at least to make it an upward/downward stab.
I have no idea what's up with the hitrects, although I'd noticed that problem too. Would you mind taking a look?
Modding the level 3 attack seems a bit ambitious, but maybe once I fix the other stuff.

It's a problem because it doesn't feel right.

When you're done perfecting the hack, maybe you should post the code. I think quite a few people would like something like that. Also I would set the map to egg corridor instead of sacred grounds. those enemies are slower moving are better to test it out on than the angle things in hell.

That's pretty cool. Maybe if you are shooting down just flip the weapon in the arms.bmp. I'm not sure if that would work but anyway... Just a suggestion. Oh and I have no idea if this would be possible but you could make him move his arm move when throwing....that might require a bit too much ASM hacking though. Anyway it's pretty cool :rolleyes:

Even with the problems, this is quite a good one. I like the way the graphics emphasize the sword-swinging aspect of the hack.

By that, I mean you didn't just reduce the range: you actually made it into a sword.

I'm not sure how to do the up-slashes, because nearly all of the weapon-code is moonspeak to me. I have absolutely no idea how to make a weapon use specific frames, for example, or where that sort of thing is even stored.

I might make the slash stay attached to the player's vertical position, but it doesn't seem like much of a problem, and it seems like a pain to make room for it.

As for the level-three attack, it's beyond my ASM abilities at the moment. If anyone wants to take a stab at it, they're more than welcome to.

I'd assume if he wanted to make a mod about lasers more than a blade mod, he would of done it. I might be wrong though. :greydroll:
