Why?
-_-

We're doing a PC version, too. It's already done, but we need to finish testing it.

Anyone interested in helping us test the new PC version?

I definitely would be!
If nothing else, I can at least say that I know cave story "inside and out", so to speak.

Re: Cave Story+

I would be ecstatic if I could also test the game. I have beaten Cave Story a good seven or eight times now, but then again I don't know the game "inside and out" like Noxid (quite literally) does. I completely understand if you just want to let Noxid and GIRakaCHEEZER test, however.

I'm guessing you've never gotten an achievement on Steam before.
Actually, I have. A good amount. To me, it just interferes with game immersion.

Also, I find it plain useless to put it in a game like Cave Story. Small message and fanfare. That's all you need.

Whoa, hello there tyrone.
If anybody should be testing it, I would say Noxid.

Ahh I forgot to say that xD
Noxid and GIR are best suited for this role.. Noxid knows this game like the back of his Red Glasses.

Re: Cave Story+

I'm not exactly sure tyrone wants/needs specifically people who are able to hack the game, but if that is the case, then I'd throw carrotlord's name out there as well.
If it's just people in general that you need, I'd love to test it.

I hate to break it to you, but Noxid doesn't have glasses.

I think he was referring to Noxid's array of Professor Booster avatars.

This.
But if this is the case, then you can count the whole forums in.

Re: Cave Story+

Yeah. I would vote Noxid and Gir as well.

Yeah. Although under that logic we'd be better off running linux. o_o

As much as I'd love to, Noxid and Gir really are more qualified.

Re: Cave Story+

If testing means just playing through it, reporting bugs, ect, I would agree. If you need a detailed knowlage of modding, then I can't pretend I am qualified.

I'm still not sure what "qualifications" are necessary to test a game. Do you have a keyboard? A monitor? I think you should be set.

I'd like to test the PC version of Cave Story+, but I really don't think it's necessary to have game modification experience to do so. My assumption is that Tyrone wants people who are very familiar with the gameplay rather than the game engine. (i.e. a lot of people on these forums have played Cave Story a bunch of times and would easily be able to spot bugs in a redesigned release).

For ASM hackers, there are many. Noxid and GIR are the most prominent, but the group also includes Lace, myself, Landonpeanut, Dubby, Lunarsoul, jed37, and so forth. Once more - I think it is unnecessary to have this kind of experience and a regular forum member would suffice just as well as a Cave Story modder/hacker.

Re: Cave Story+

Knowing exactly how everything is supposed to work is the best way to know what can break it. Messing with sequences, getting to where you aren't supposed to at a certain time, etc. It is highly unlikely to run into a bug on a straight-faced play through with even some polish. You have to know what is most likely to go wrong. That's why I think modders would make the best testers, since they have to account for all the variables.

If this were true, I'd be very happy because I'd never have to debug my program code ever again.

In all seriousness, I still disagree. I don't want to make a big deal of it though, so I'll probably stop here. It's Tyrone who'll make the decision regarding this new-fangled CS thingamabob.

Re: Cave Story+

Hey All,

Thanks for the posts. You don't have to be a modding pro or even a modder to beta test. We're mainly looking for different PC configurations (and we'll need to know your PC specs, Windows XP/Vista/W7, monitor size/resolution etc.) so that we can properly scope out all the bugs that might exist before release.

Mac/OS X is a pretty closed system and most of the machines are generally all quite similar. Any and all help with the Windows version is appreciated.

Please keep in mind that if you do sign up, we do need help reporting the bugs. In return, I can give anyone who helps properly test a credit in the game (if you're willing to use your real name since we don't credit forum handles) and a steam copy of the game. If you're not comfortable giving out your name, that's totally ok--you're still welcome to help test and still can get a code for a release version of the game.
