Now that I've posted this, it won't be long before someone beats by boss rush time (with video footage to go along with it, I hope).

GIRakaCHEEZER, wow, your time is good. I guess Kuro Blaster level 2 deals much more damage than level 3 does. I’ll have to complete the game two more times. Or maybe you’ll share your save file? :( But there are at least two ways to improve your time.
1. When you’re fighting that missile truck you can jump on it without losing health. Just land on that ledge before the missile launcher and keep shooting.
2. When you’re fighting that clock on train level, you equip uzi blaster and jetpack jump ON the clock and once more to the right, there is a hand car with 2 penguins. When the Kuro things (black ones) are destroyed you have to jump back right away to fight two remaining forms of this boss.

You might also want a health jar so you won’t have to lose your lives.
And that black tentacle thing can be destroyed without waiting for the spot to pop in a right place, but that requires luck I guess.

And then I decided to google it in japanese and found this:

1'36"60!

Huzzah! New high score on the iOS version: 2'32"13. I'm fairly satisfied with it. -w-

diph.php

I'm still really enjoying Kero Blaster even after quite a bit of playing and completing the game like...six times. I bought Azarashi, too. I already made a review on the App Store and so the energy to make a more detailed one escapes me, but it's super fun. I'll be playing it for a long time to come, I'm sure. The level based, run-and-gun nature does fit mobile devices really well, probably better than Cave Story does. :>

iOS controls are surprisingly awesome. They weren't a problem at all for me. And I was trying not to spoil what the secret weapon is since this game is so new, but I guess this thread is having none of that o.o;

It's pretty easy to find, anyway, I suppose. But yeah, it seems that the Level 2 Kuro Blaster is more powerful and reliable in general than the Level 3 stream. Kind of like the Blade, in that manner at least...
I'd like to post approximations of how powerful the various weapons and their bullets are, if I can. I know that the Star Mine bubbles do 2 damage each and the big bubbles do 4 damage each, Fan does 2 damage and Wide does 3 damage, and of course the Peashooter and Repeater do 1 and 2 damage respectfully, but that's all I remember. I'll look at it more later, by which point I'm sure someone will have looked into its code and gotten all of the values in one fell swoop somehow anyway.
(Seems like a difficult task, though...many of the weapons in this game have odd ways of dispersing bullets or go so fast that it's difficult to tell...)

I wonder if I could help in any other ways. Probably not, but it's a nice thought. c:

So anyway, what do you guys (and especially Andwhy) think on how this game will be added to the main site and the forums? Is it big/important enough to deserve its own subsections, or should it be another one in the Other Games By Pixel categories? I'm not really sure myself, and I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Got a better time (01'53"76)

The only thing I really have trouble with is the way that guy on niconico did the train boss. It requires a nearly pixel perfect jump while offscreen. I could do it if I practiced it maybe, so maybe I'll try to make a mod where I can practice that boss just by itself.

After 2 or so hours of constant practice, I managed to get a score...so close to yours it made me sad...1'56"30 ;_;

diph.php

Oh, derp. TIMING.

Let's try that again.

diph.php

It's still a lot better than my previous time, and it's not like I'm known for ever having skill in any game, ever, so...whatevs. I'm happy I even got close this time, your video seemed almost impossible at first. D:
(I can take slight, slight solace in knowing that I'm faster than you by several seconds as the yellow tank boss ends. It's the rest of them that give me more trouble...)

It seems many of the bosses have trickier patterns than it seems...I can't watch the NicoNico video, so I can only wonder how it's supposed to go. I used some of the ways shown in your video of defeating the Giant Fish and Dark Tentacle Blob without taking three million years, along with some of my own things. Maybe with more practice, I'll improve...

I've found that Kuro Blaster wrecks the Giant Fish's shit; beat that one in like three seconds flat.
It wrecks everything, really. I believe it does more damage than the Lazer Uzi at close range. If something is constantly too far away for it to work well (read:basically the Time Runner and nothing else), Uzi Lazer is instead the best bet.

(Lazer Uzi, Uzi Lazer. I can't tell which one I prefer. It's an odd name.)

BTW, the inscription on the tentacle boss server is スパサバ 511 — supasaba, I guess, it means “Super Server”.

No it reads スーパーサーバー (suupaa saabaa, super server). You can't just ignore the elongated vowels, as it changes the word.

For example, スパ (supa) would be "spa", and サバ (saba) would be "mackerel".

Oh, I didn’t realize that Kero Blaster now has a separate forum and threads, did not intend to post off-topic.

Well, I don’t really know Japanese at all. Thanks for correcting me. I just poked around Katakana chart, figured out “supasaba” and that made sense, forgot about the existence chōonpu, decided that those were dashes.

I can make first offscreen jump almost every time, but not a single time was I able to jump again and stay on the boss. You don’t need to press any direction, when you go offscreen, you jump and then boost. You just have to time it right.

Oh, goodness. I never notice when threads are split like this. :toroko:

I'm still trying it, but getting a better Boss Rush time is quite taxing...

whelp

:muscledoc:

I'm going to need a marathon of practice in the future, and even then I don't think there's a good chance I'll even get close...

I guess my unskilled target score is 1'35"00 to 1'40"00. That's at least 16 seconds off my best time, I think I can manage that with a few hours.

Well, looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. It was pretty fun, though, and I guess it's a decent first try.

On another note, GIR, I'm a bit confused on how you complete the fish boss so quickly. It doesn't even go into its final form. Is there some trick to keep it in its first form so you can kill it faster?

If you do 180+ damage to it immediately, it will go into its final form right away. But there's a short grace period after it shoots the 3 electric bolts where it won't transform, so you can finish it off after it shoots those.
I did it. I beat the time.

Wow alright here's a much better time.

Still can't handle Time Runner very well, so I'll have to practice more.

In the two-minute times now. Once I perfect the Time Runner and figure out how to get through the DTB without an insane amount of luck I should get a pretty good time.
