That's right

CAVE STORY CAN NOW PLAY .avi FILES!!!!!

I've been working on this forever and wanted to finished this up before the year was out.

How it works:

it's similar to the <IMG command
Code:
<AVImoves
the file name must be "AVI_moves.avi" for it to read properly

Downfalls:

Cannot use Ballos (ball) Cannot use entity's 200+ Certain OS's make the game go into an infinite looping glitch? (might have to do directly with 64 bit OS's) Don't apply the <IMG command.

If you got all that here is a mod showing it being used.

I'll post the source code sooner or later (as in when I get access to my other PC)

Avi.story.zip - Dropbox

Well while it has a lot of potential, there are a couple of issues with it so far. It seems any 64-bit OS's don't work at all on it (According to Dunc and others) and I know you mentioned that, so do you think you could find the source?
Also, even on a 32-bit OS like mine, the game is permanently stuck at the "loading" screen for me.
And is is just me or is the title screen music a lot clearer?

wait....

it doesn't work on 64 bit OS's?

It works on my win 7 64 bit. (I wrote the code on it)

but not my vista 64 bit

or my win 7 32 bit.

and yeah, I reshacked the org.

I used the engine from Dreams of reality for this since it had the <IMG hack applied already.

I don't know about the 64-bit OS's, might want to ask Dunc and the others about that.
For my Win 7 32-bit, it just stops at the second loading screen after I press new indefinitely. I'm not sure what the problem is with mine, it might just be that it rejected the AVI files (it does that occasionally to some file formats) and caused the game to continuously load.

It seemed reasonable to assume that when I completely failed on 64-bit and Nadojin did not on 32-bit, coupled with this quote, that 64-bit operating systems don't work with it.

Wow, Bombchu, this is incredible!

I tried your mod, and the video of Sonic sarcastically apologizing played. I then replaced the file with a longer video, and then it played that. I remember Noxid going on about how hard it would be to make Cave Story play Mp3 files, but you've managed to make it play both audio and video! I look forward to you releasing the source code to this hack, because I'd very much like to use this in CBSR.

Once again, well done!

Just so you know, I'm running a Windows 7 64-bit as well. Haven't tried this on any other computers.

FINALLY it works for someone else.

I think I do need a longer file for it to work, (it's only 774KB after all)

Hmmm, and the OS thing is an issue as well.

I'll get around to it soon...

I just hope that it doesn't persist to be a problem...or else it will be about as useful as CS32. :/

This was all a trick, it utilizes the Dreams of Reality <IMG code to display three frames consisting of nothing but "Loading". I have to say, that was a really good prank.

I should have realized this was a trick when I read "DUKUTSU MONOGATARI" on the title screen. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that on the title screen and actually fell for this. Best trick since HaydenStudio's Cave Story 2.

Now I'm confused. Did you get your copy of Cave Story through Cave Story Deluxe or did you just apply the translation patch to the original game? I got mine from Cave Story Deluxe so perhaps that changes between versions.

Wait...
どぅくつ物語?!

And either way, that was a really well executed...umm...prank, I think.
But this leaves me wondering...is it actually possible?
But isn't it a bit early in the year for pranks?

Yeah, actually my 1st comment was only for joking. :p
I belivied him in the first time, but,
I went to CE, opened the game, and then, I saw the IMG command. I wrote an envent with the ".avi" command, it didn't work.I just got an error message. And THEN, I realized it was a trick.

In this screenshot, the whole time I thought there would've been some event that would soon play the AVI somewhere in the coding. But then I saw the <EVE0201, repeating the loading sequence.
