    Well, it's been a journey, mainly full of pure hatred, but that aside, I beat the Normal Ending on Hard Mode with 3 HP, now, I shall take a break, and return when I'm not in the mood to punch a wall

    I beat the Core, hurray!
    Iron Head and Ma Pignon were easy, but now I run into a choice that determines my entire run.
    Do I get the Life Capsule from the dog, or in other words beat it with 3 hp and be a gamer or beat it with 8 hp and be a slightly less gamer gamer

    Sadly this was on the switch version, if there is a method of backups i wouldn't know it

    I finally beat Monster X on Hard Mode, but now a new problem has appeared, the Core, I made a strategy but have only gotten it to 1/4 of its health.
    Truth be told I don't think I'll ever be able to beat Hard mode again.
    Hell, I've never beaten the blood stained sanctuary on Hard, the normal ending is all I've ever been able to beat.

    Congratulations on beating Hard Mode Monster X. I'm sure you'll defeat the Core eventually.

    Nobody is gonna hold you back from keeping trying obviously, but maybe(just maybe), since you've already done it, you could try something new that may be just as challenging(?)
    I mean, there are lots of challenging games out there.
    That being said, I admire the determination.

    If you want to make Cave Story hacks you'll be using a debugger, not an assembler. Everyone here uses OllyDebug. I like Xin's variant of it. There's also x86dbg which is pretty similar, and actively being developed. (Plus it has a Long Mode version - x64dbg)

    I've done that once for the new game + in Jenka's Nightmare and I am NOT doing that again.

    After a while cave story gets pretty boring, if you play that every week you're gonna meet major burnout.

    I've always had really a good experience with Paint.net. If you're looking for limited palette ... all I know is Aseprite, which is for pixel sprite animation.

    I don't understand why people keep going to GIMP for this. I don't care what it's useful for but its defenitely not spriting at all.

    Sprite wise, I use MS Paint, though chances are you could find better options.
