At 2AM this morning, June 12th, 2016, the worst mass shooting in United States history occurred at a gay nightclub in Orlando. Fifty people were killed and fifty more were injured. The attack has been heralded as the worst act of terrorism since 9/11.
Here's what we know about Omar Mateen, the shooter who carried out this atrocious crime:
People in the United States like to reiterate that terrorism is not a purely Islamic idea. However, it is extremely clear that Islamic Fundamentalists in the Middle East are attempting to wage war on the western nations through terrorism. I understand completely that there are a large number of Muslims who do not support Fundamentalism or jihad. However, many people in the Middle East, and even some countries, support fundamentalism and harbor aggression towards the United States.
Now if you don't know what Islamic Fundamentalism is, it's a belief system that has existed for a long time but was re-envisioned by Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader of Iran during and after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. He called both the United States and Israel "two devils" which Allah had sent to punish members of Islam for not staying true to the "fundamentals" of Islamic faith. Khomeini took it a step further and said that these threats must be extinguished before Allah can forgive the Muslim people. This ideology is the source of radical Islamic belief, regardless of a terrorist faction's allegiance to Iran, and is the root of attacks like the one in Orlando.
And yet our government CONTINUES to remain inactive. Obama is already saying crap like "We're to blame for this massacre, not Islamic terrorism." He's just too wishy-washy. He claims he's making a stance against terrorism, but even if he is, he's failing miserably. Trump is looking like a better and better alternative to Hillary Clinton. She's going to be just as much of a pushover as Obama. Now I DESPISE Trump. He's racist and he's an asshole and he's going to ruin our country. But at least he won't take shit from terrorist groups.
We should have removed hostile Islamic Fundamentalist groups from existence a very long time ago. We should be occupying countries suspected having ties to fundamentalist groups. We should be removing fundamentalist or pro-terrorist groups from political power, including Bashir al-Assad, ISIS, the Taliban, and the Iranian government.
Since these monsters have decided to wage war against our country and others, and since they refuse to show themselves and prefer to operate under the guise of the average civillian, they should be subject to no mercy and the full might of the United States military.
Besides, if we marched into full scale war, we could create more jobs and boost the economy. And we could stop oppression and terrorism in the Middle East. It's a win-win for the U.S. overall.
(As long as we win).
Here's what we know about Omar Mateen, the shooter who carried out this atrocious crime:
- His father, Seddique Mir Mateen, was an Islamic faith leader and even a presidential candidate in Afghanistan. He supported the United States and condemned ISIS.
- Omar Mateen had been contacted three times by the FBI after expressing radical behavior and ideas, but he had not been taken into custody due to a lack of evidence. He was also on the FBI Watch List.
- Mateen pledged allegiance to the leader of ISIS in a 911 call shortly before he carried out the attacks. In the same call he mentioned the Boston Marathon Bombers.
- Mateen expressed an extreme hatred for homosexuality in the past.
