Now that you put it that way, it does make a whole lot of sense. I'm looking at the first Cave Story Remix Project's site, and they definitely had everything prepared. They had their own site, mixers, forums and everything. But that doesn't mean we have to have all of that to be a successful remix project; I think we just need the basics.
Like you said, if this is really what it's supposed to be, maybe the original Cave Story Remix Project guys would be able to help. Heck, there could even be some mixers from the past project to contribute to this new one. So I'm currently thinking of these options:
1) If this is going to be "officially" Cave Story Remix Project 2, the original staff MUST help us do this, if they decide to do so. It was their idea after all, and we can't just take that idea without their consent and have people expect it to be directly related to the first remix project. If they do help, we'd have a more organized project even if all we have right now is this thread. If we're lucky the old mixers could even contribute tracks, like what was already said.
2) A different remix project title. By calling this "Cave Story Remix Project 2" the communities out there will assume that this is a continuation of the first project. There's a certain standard set in the original that we must meet (or surpass) by having this title. If we can't or don't have the original staff's consent, we can always start our own. However, going with this option does make it harder for this remix project to be known since we're gonna have to do what the people of the original project did to spread this around. We won't have any kind of help or support from them if we don't try to ask.
In both options though, we still do need to set a standard about the quality of all the songs, which is what you plan to help remedy by becoming a judge (OCRemix-style term lol) yourself. Actually, I have no problems with this besides the fact that you can't be the only one. If option 1 was used then there'd surely be people with experience to help in the judging. I don't know about option 2...
About OCRemix...I think there's a clear reason why the original project stood on its own and didn't completely ask OCRemix for help. OCRemix's standards are very f**king high. Tracks like Polar Star Overdrive didn't come from the remix project, and only a select few from the actual project (H20) made it. Although the quality would increase significantly if OCRemix standards were used for this project, it would also block out the chances of lots of musicians out there to be in the project, me included.
*phew* With all of that in mind, our current plan of action should be deciding on what to do. Should we consult the supervisors of the original remix project, re-organize this whole thing with a new title or go our own ways and let this thread be just a thread full of remixes?
