Are they merely patterns?
Are they, if he is indeed a robot, a form of power generation?
Perhaps they're his insides, if he is a robot, where it's been worn away, or maybe he's got water markings like quote just going into a weird colour.

It's likely just a pattern, but it's interesting to think about it.

It could be possible that some of Balrog's parts is made of copper, like his arms and the markings on his face.

If you're going along with the idea that he's a robot, that does kind of sound reasonable. Not too sure why they'd do it like that as it could cause electric shocks or high temperature related injuries to people using him for godknows. Then again, that could also be why some of Balrog's attacks hurt - High heat or electric currents.

I kinda like the idea it's facepaint. It definitely sounds like something he'd do as well.

back when I first played cave story, I thought he was a lunchbox, and that the lines were rubber bands.

Now, if he is wearing face paint, than that bears the other question, why?
p190345-0-imagesqtbnand9gcq9k1wqnqbjddlvbdybdidhomrs0.jpg

Originally painted on his model so to avoid it being completely gray in design?
Something that gives him pride/a warrior marking (the "Huzzah/Oh Yeah" is a translation put in for an untranslatable Japanese war cry I believe)?
Rust from his tears (except that doesn't make sense for the upward part, maybe he was crying upside-down [non-seriously])!?

no. In Japan, the Kool Aid man goes "HUZZAH!" instead of "Oh Yeah!" in English speaking countries. The whole thing where Balrog breaks through building s and says that is based off of the Kool Aid man.

”どりあ!!" (Doryaa!) doesn't actually have an meaning per say, but it can be used in the same way that the english language uses phrases like "Huzzah!" or "Oh Yeah!".
A warcry though...?
You might be thinking of "Banzai!", perhaps?
In short, it's an interjection that's basically like "Rahhhh!" or "Yahhh!". It has no meaning, but you'd use it in the same way you might "Huzzah" when crashing through a door or falling through the ceiling.

Why is it that Balrog causes the most controversy in this fandom. Like out of all the characters I see have theories and such Balrog certainly has a bunch (although they're usually debates on what the crap he is based off)

What toaster has a handle
He is clearly a tin lunchbox with wings and a face
I mean duh

Seriously, I remember reading somewhere that Pixel said that Balrog was based off of a soap bar.
But what soap bar has orange stripes and a handle I mean that's just silly

This is off topic, please do this in the 357 other balrog threads.

Oh, and there also isn't a handle. People mistake the top of the door in his first scene for one but that's wrong.
