I think he was made to transfer messages to people by recording them and repeating it to the reciver so he technicly Quotes The sender.

ON TOPIC: Quote could be named like every human. Someone had an idea of that name, or Quote's grandparent (?!) was called Quote.

 

Look at this was for both Curly Brace and Quote:

Curly Braces look like { } which look like female breasts looking left and right - "girl" robot
A quote mark " looks like two testicles. - "male" robot
