Why did the robots kill the almost harmless Mimigas? Valueable skins for their Human creators? I have no Idea.

Probably because they were just following orders. In their search for the Demon Crown and maybe the Core, the Mimigas back then might have resisted or at least known something about the Crown, but probably refused to tell them.

Probably something like this :
Mimigas are living peacefully... Humans arrive, as scientists and explorers. Discovering the secrets of the island, the Mimigas and Humans probably cooperate to some extent.

Then at some point, a marvelous discovery is made; or the surface world's politics begin to shift. With such battle-ready robots, I wouldn't be surprised if there was trouble on the surface. In any case, the word gets out that there's something on that island that might change everything.

So, some countries band together and send a militia to secure this new power. But, something goes wrong.
Maybe a Mimiga threw a rock, or maybe Miakid lost it in search for power. In any case, once things got out of hand, it probably quickly escalated.

And there it is!

Certainly the humans from the surface did not intend for such a massacre... I mean what kind of self-destructing people would want to capture a power to use against them?

There's obviously more to the story than meets the eye...

EDIT:
As Curly once said :

As Curly once said : "The real bad guy's are the humans!"
If you're gonna quote someone, then do it right. Because what she really says is "It's the humans who're the real bad guys!" Or, in the retarted NICALiS translation, she says "This is all the human's fault!" That's all.

It's all the same concept. Does it really matter how they phrase it? The bottom line is: the humans are the actually bad guys.

Geez.

No! You've got it wrong! The REAL bottom line is: It's the humans who're the real bad guys.
LOL! No, I guess it doesn't matter. Sorry, I just couldn't resist...

congrats, you've driven this thread into the ground with your pedantics faster than anyone I've seen before.

Back on topic I'm pretty sure the robots were just programmed to kill everything in the way, and the Mimiga tried to get in the way.
Perhaps they didn't even try; it could've been accidental.

The REAL bottom line is: It's the humans who're the real bad guys.

Why are guys always the bad guys! ><
Where are all the bad girls...

uhhh what am I saying

@cultr1 - hopefully this can jump start it again lol and yeah I agree it's probably not the robots fault... right?

*cough* anyway, this thread sounds like the title of a news article...

the Mimigas are running...

ISLAND, Somewhere up in the sky, (AP) -- Miakid signaled Wednesday
it has captured the ORed CrownO, but no official announcement has
been made regarding the return of the Robot Army.

General Miakid's report on the matter gave a frightening look into the
cost of acquiring the ORed CrownO.

"In the two days since we arrived on Floating Island, we've lost over half
of our forces to the vicious natives and to renegade forces. Left with
no choice, I had to issue the order to return fire. Those rabbits didn't
know what hit them."

While the killer robots weren't open to comment on the matter, one
blonde robot came out of nowhere to voice her opinion. "It's the humans
who're the real bad guys!"

The United Countries of Earth disavow this comment, as no country
would claim responsiblity for this robot's identity.

The local animal population, "Mimigas" have been reduced to just one
third of their original population if reports are to be trusted. While the
promise of finally obtaining the legendary ORed CrownO has excited
the world, this reporter has to ask himself : Was it really worth it?

@cultr1 Thank you, I needed someone to say that. That was totally uncalled for of me.

In actual contribution to this topic, I'm thinking that the robots dispatched there were told, "Use ANY means necessary to retrieve the Demon Crown." And perhaps those not so cognitively advanced robots slightly misunderstood those instructions, and began commiting genocide. In that case they were scarcely monitored by any humans other than the mad man Miakid who didn't flinch at torture. Though I've always wondered what the story is on some of those blue robots you find in places around the island, like the Egg Corridor, and the Labyrinth who look and talk like they wouldn't harm a fly. I like going with the theory expressed in Curly Brace's story that some of them, like the ones you see around the island in Cave Story, refused to slaughter.

I think the robot personally must not have like mimigas that much. I mean, Quote and Curly never had that problem. Anyway, I think that the mimgas being slathered is not a big deal in the world order.

Yeah, they could use a good shampooing, I think. I mean, they're covered in fur, they'd probably smell if someone didn't slather them.

No doubt.
They'd probably use Suave for Mimiga, though.

Still, how'd you feel if someone slathered you?!

It's not right to send a robot army into their unsuspecting villages to give them a good cleaning.

Hmm... I get the feeling I must have missed this before, Chaco gives Quote the Red Lipstick.

Back then when the Robot maids invaded slathering everyone; I wonder if their goal was a special line of cosmetics. Red cosmetics. Created from rare wild Red Flowers, growing in the hidden valleys of Floating Islands. They were going to be big, and they would change the world...

Alas, some makeup is too great a responsibility...

According to Curly's 'testimony' she said that the robots aren't created to kill the mimigas, they are just getting in the way. And if you watched enough sci/fi movie you can imagine what's in the robots' head.
"OBSTRUCTION DETECTED
TERMINATE"
If Quote and Curly came with the first party, they might have to kill mimigas as well.
But thank to Miakid and his goons, he managed to disrupt the peace of the island and become the new bearer of the Demon Crown.

Of course, maybe Miakid just simply ordered the robots to hunt the mimigas for their fur, because like most rare animals, the mimigas' fur would sell for a good price. This theory have no evident canonically, of course, because of how vague the plot is and because Pixel want to "leave it to the player's imagination"

I rest my case.

Also, on the shampoo theory.

I'm doubtful they would have done that. When Curly recounts to you her memory, and all the dead mimigas, she says "It was... terrible," And seeing that they posess a full range of emotions, I think Quote and Curly are a bit more compassionate than that.
Also, on the shampoo theory.

The island was all messy when Q and C arrived, the machines had slathered everyone, it was a literal massofhair. The dirty scientists tried to cover the Mimigas, but they were easily wiped up by the machines.

The Mimigas were able to come back though, thanks to the power of the Red Flower. If it had not existed, the Mimigas might have been lost. The Red Flowers stained their coats, and these Wild Mimigas were a fright to see.

Curly knew that the goal of the machines was the great Demon Crayon. Blahrog and Happily would have to obey the Crayon's master.

But soon Mia the kid took the crayon and used it to draw great power. The machines grew silent because they had been switched off. And soon the Wild Mimigas were sent to the surface and began slathering the world with a vengence.

Quote and Curly were able to damage Mia the Kid, but their conditioner took a turn for the worse, their circuits got wiped cleaned probably, cause soon they forgot who they were...

Oh man I fell asleep in the chair after writing that...
I have nothing else to add...

@Hayden
It would be nice if Quote is also like that.
But, from how you can play the game, Quote can just don't give a damn about Curly and leave her dying after the Core fight.
But that apart, just because Curly is nice after the amnesia doesn't mean she's the same original Curly.

@X-Calibar
Many years later, a robot woke up in a cave, after exploring the cave he found a hermit laundromat operator. He decided to clean his clothes and steal the hermit's detergent. POW! dirty bats and critters are no match against Quote's cleanliness.
Meanwhile, at the Mimiga village, a foreign mimiga known as Sue is researching a better and less sticky shampoo.

Dr. Fuyuhiko Date, known as the Specialist stole Mia the kid's nose as a trade-off for the Red Crayon.

Quote and Curly, a proud member of PETA, decided to step in and stop the Specialist from slathering the world with Sue's new shampoo. The Specialist decided to ride on his most powerful creation ever, the Undead Wash Machine.
After a lengthy debate of Pro and Cons, Professor Balloster, imprisoned by his sister Jenka for slathering the whole kingdom decided to break out and slather the island.

Did you know Professor Jenka once had a brother?
Like his sister, he possessed knowledge beyond those of consumers.
The consumer loved his shampoo, even more than Suave.
The president of Suave sued Balloster and sent him to jail.
Companies can be a terrible foe indeed.
Under the torture of seeing his company getting squashed, Balloster finally let his imagination run wild.
Suave co. was bought over in an instant.
The whole kingdom bought over Balloster's shampoo.
But before Balloster could sue the Suave's president, Jenka sued him and put him back to jail.

The following takes place between postsX and postsK
Events are not real time, they occur sporadically

"The shampoo is a lie!", Balloster said. But, Jenka would not hear of it. For Jenka secretly endorsed Sue~ave shampoo, revealing her secret ingredients were "Flowers", that are rumored to be kept locked in a secret location.

Curly was on the verge of disclosing the old woman's secret, when a pack of wild dogs appeared!

Unlimited Yapping was super effective!

Soon Curly found herself brainwashed into believing she was raising several Mimiga children, while living in an abandoned building, while always being watched by the Talking Dog.

It wouldn't be until much later, that our hero awakens to save Curly and Balloster from an evil fate.

...

Balloster freed after a millenia of wrongful imprisonment, rushes into confront Jenka...
No.... the dogs... have already.... .reutnr.a..s.
