Why would Misery volunteer to eat a red flower?

Just occurred to me that it doesn't seem much like her.

 

she's like a slave to the crown bearer,so she has to be sort of submissive in nature, either by the nature of the job, or by request of Date.

anyway what puzzles me more is why the red flowers would even have any effect on her

But on topic, I think she volunteered because she was confident that they would have no effect.

And on-topic, maybe the red flowers just tasted good. Besides, they shouldn't have an effect on her, since the doctor said when he made the red crystal "and now it will affect humans too!", which would imply that it wouldn't affect humans just as a flower. Of course this is made under the assumption that Misery is a human for all intents and purposes.
