Pixel and Almonds

This thread is for the discussion of the correlation between Pixel and Almonds.

Maybe Pixel has this obsession with almonds, and Cave Story is representative of that. It's like, the almonds are what is keeping his whole world afloat, and if you take those away, then there's nothing to stop the evil within from pulling it down and taking everyone with it.

Plus the Core boss fight is like almost R34 of almonds if you think about it...

Obviously cave story was created as a symbollic representation of Pixel's struggle with almonds, since he needs to eat them in order to move on and grow, but cannot since then he will have to face the evil within his own heart if he does. Only by both eating the almonds and then facing the evil head on can he indeed get the "good ending".

His obsession is obvious enough, look at the files used in the core battle (the map and script and tileset and npc sprite sheet are all labeled almond). This all points to some perverse obsession with the nut, similar to the one that pixel has with cats (he drew 100 pictures of cats). And the core projectiles sure look like something dirty, further proving that this boss is more symbolic than anything else. It's the core (almond) that is the heart of the island, just as pixel views almonds in his own life.

Plus just look at the core, looks so much like an almond. If anything at all, we can at least conclude that pixel was inspired by the food, like he was by a bar of soap (ex. balrog and poohblack).

 

I had been wondering about why they were titled almond, and the projectiles of the Core did creepy me out a bit. I'm glad to know that there's a reason for it.

OH GOD LMFAO! Never has my picture of Curly made me laugh this hard. We should totally start a mod Almond Story. I could even draw more cave story character faces as elderly people.

My personal theory is that Pixel was traumatized by almonds as a child, so he exacted his revenge by facing his fears and making a video game where you kill a giant almond.
His goal was to teach humanity about the threat of almonds, to help advance society to a clean, almond-free lifestyle.
