Important whisker discussion!

Looking at the new sprites for Cave Story Wii, I notice that King and Igor have whiskers. Now, the question is, do all Mimiga have whiskers? Or, do only male Mimiga have whiskers? Or do Sue and Toroko have them, but they are just too small/fine to see?

Or, are whiskers a side effect of Red Flower Rage? Are whiskers proportional to the amount of time spent in darker areas of the cave? Should the Mimiga always have had whiskers, or is this some new invention of pixel/nicalis?

Will Jack have smaller whiskers than King because he's lame? Or does Jack even deserve whiskers?

Zett had some kind of mustache. Is this a seperate facial hair entity than whiskers, or do whiskers just turn bushy and grey when you get older? Are the whiskers like those on a cat, or a Scotsman?

Would cutting/losing your whiskers (If they are only present on males) be veiwed the same way as a human male waxing their legs? Are the whiskers a subject of vanity/appearance, or do the Mimiga regard them as being "just there"

It is vital that we speculate on these facial features and their ramifications.

 

To be exact, I think only Itoh has whiskers in mimiga form.

So, whiskers were originally part of Pixel's design.
And the fact that he has whiskers in Mimiga form and not human is strong evidence that All (Male?) Mimiga have whiskers. However, due to the relative length of his whiskers compared to his coolness, whiskers are not proportional to how awesome you are. Good news for Jack, if he wants em.

 

I'm pretty sure they all have whiskers, because of how they are based on rabbits more or less. Plus the new wiiware sprites are more or less a confirmation of this (toroko's wii sprite looks like a butt face, really).

King appears to be a statistical outlier. However, it must be noted that King has not one pair, but multiple pairs of whiskers. Perhaps his awesomeness exceeded the allowed length for a standard whisker pair (which is very nearly reached by Igor), so it had to be divided up?

I can only see King being MORE bad-ass with whiskers, since these arern't your everyday normal pussy whiskers, these are EXTREME FUCKING AWESOME RAPE-YOUR-BRAINS-OUT WHISKERS.
Okay, so King has more than one pair of whiskers, therefore the awesomeness of each pair is compounded.

An astute observation, Captain. My estimate of King's awesomeness was rather conservative, but I was trying to counteract the subjectivity raised by my Undivided Worship of King by artificially manipulating the scale. Objectivity/Subjectivity debate aside, I think we have reached an important conclusion; Whisker length is a function of Awesomeness.
From this, we can conclude that Jack will most likely have only stunted pitiful whiskers, if any at all. Which brings me to the next point: If all Men have whiskers, and Jack ends up without any, should we take it as a sign that Jack is actually a female Mimiga masquerading as a male? I mean, most of Jack's profile is obscured by either "his" Hat or "his" Glasses, and Jack has a suspiciously petite nose.

 

It's true, Jack could be short for something, like Jacqueline.
But I wonder why they implemented whiskers. Maybe it was like:
"Hey Daisuke, if they're supposed to look like rabbits, why don't they have any whiskers?"
"Because they aren't rabbits, Niklas."
"Yeah I know, but they look a lot like rabbits. We might as well complete the picture."
"The picture's been complete for five years. Fans seem to be perfectly happy with no whiskers."

I really don't like the whiskers in the sprites. It's not bad on Igor, but I think none of the normal mimigas should have them. It just makes them look like cats.

By the way, the new toroko sprite makes her look, well, retarded. King, however, looks rather badass with his new sprite. Jack, ehhhh, I always hated his sprite, always hated him, really wished I could kill him for looking so damned annoying.

 

Yea, I feel bad for all those Toroko fans having their hearts broken. Hopefully they will make up for it by making Toroko+ weep tears of blood before she transforms.

Also, whiskers are clearly only obvious at higher resolutions. Whyme must be stuck in 16 bit so she can't see dog whiskers.
