What is with him?! Is he blind? What is the small band-aid/paper thingy on his right cheek(about lower)?

He was captured by a maniac, his sister was changed into a rabbit monster and his mother was supposed to be and presumably was thrown off a flying island, to say the least. He has Eyes Always Shut. And he was probably injured, hence the Band-Aid. Seriously, do you think noone would get injured in such incidents?
