I didn't see this in the forums anywhere, so I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but....
I've got an idea about why Ballos' right eye is red and his left one is {Pale} blue...

Ever noticed that your right eye sees everything slightly red, and your left sees everything slightly blue? {At least mine do o.o;} Why? Iono, probably something to do with our visible colour spectrum, since Red's at one end and Blue's at the other. Those cheap 3D glasses probably play on this, with their red and blue lenses...
Anyways, I think Ballos' eyes were coloured that way to reflect that.

That, or I'm just thinking too hard.....
Anyways, anyone think I'm getting somewhere?

There was an excerpt from a fan-fic that seemed likely.
It revolved around the origin of the Red Flowers and the island prison.

But did Pixel colour Ballos' eyes because of the way our eyes are...? I'm not talking about a logical reason for why his eyes are that way, but the reason why Pixel coloured them so.

Graphical contrast.
I mean, if Ballos' eyes were both red, it'd seem cliché.
And if they were both white it'd be...
Lamish.

You sure that's the only reason...?

Eh...Maybe I just want to think I figured out something first....

One of his eyes isn't really red, it's a bloody eye-socket since one of his eyes went into the Demon Crown.

It's all been done, to some extent.
I'm left wondering why his eyes switch colors in his first form.

That works.
But still doesn't explain why his eyes in his first form switch depending on his direction.

Oh, I know the answer to this one:
To annoy Dragonboots.
Right? =D

Might've been a slight graphical error, or something that we've completely missed...

Every action ever taken has the sole purpose of annoying me.

White darkness. Oh wait... That's just my term for "artist's laziness".

I think it's just to make him look more bizarre/freakish. And yeah, there was a fanfic in which the red eye represented hatred and the white eye represented madness.

About our eyes seeing in different colors, I think what you're experiencing, VoidMage, is the fact that our eyes naturally adjust to moderate extreme colors over time. If for some reason, your right eye were exposed to less red light than your left, and your left eye were exposed to less blue light than your right, then your right eye would see things as slightly red, and your left as slightly blue. Have you ever seen those optical illusions where there's a picture with the colors inverted and a white dot in the center, and if you stare at the white dot for a minute and then look at a white surface, you will see the original picture in the "correct" color. This works because your eyes "want" to see less of the inverted color, and so they see the "correct" color when you look at a white surface.

But thanks, I guess I was just thinking too hard.

That illusion sounds interesting, but I've never seen one like that before...

Considering that Ballos made the crown I wouldn't think he would rip out his own eye to do so.

Though a fair number of things that relate to Ballos' magic seem to have an affinity for the colour red. I assume that the same may apply to his eye.

Hmm, that's a pretty good theory. But like DragonBoots said, Pixel probably just made it like that so it was neither Cliche (don't have the fancy e -.-) or Lamish. Just to make it look awesome. :D

To Bobcat's post. Doesn't it say somewhere in the game that the eye in the crown is in fact Ballos's eye?

No. You can check it yourself if you want from any number of speedruns on youtube.

To acheive a fancy e, hold ALT and press (on the num pad) 0223.
