I wonder if Balrog was actually evil all along, or I should say fully under the control of the Crown.

Mainly due to the way he acted thru-out the game. When he was fighting Quote he didn't really seem to give it his all and was only playing along to make The Doctor happy.

Plus the part where Balrog actually helped Quote and Curly get out of the Labyrinth.

And even at the end of the game. The control of the Demon Crown wasn't broken until Ballos was defeated, yet Balrog had to already be on his way through Hell to help Quote and Curly once again.

Which means even with being under the spell of the Demon Crown both Misery and Balrog had freedoms.

No. I think Balrog was trying to make Misery happy instead (pun not intended). Balrog most likely had freedom from the curse while Misery lacked it. Balrog came into things long after the curse was already in place.

Balrog obeys Misery, and Misery obeys the crown bearer. Balrog is not affected by the curse, but Misery is.

Misery's only freedoms are what commands the crown bearer doesn't give her.

I had thought both of them was under the same spell since when you start the game both of them are in bubbles while The Doctor goes after the Crown.

No, you're all wrong. The rule goeth that they cannot disobey the Crown bearer's commands, not that they cannot act against him.

Well, obviously they can do whatever they want if they don't receive any commands.

If Balrog was cursed along with Misery than that would mean.. No, it wouldn't make sense chronologically.

My opinion is that Misery is totally enslaved by the crown and can't act against it or its owner, but Balrog's burden is a lot lighter. Balrog serves Misery (personally I like the theory that she created him), and because Misery automatically obeys the crown bearer's orders Balrog has to obey his orders too, but that's the full extent to which he's loyal to the crown bearer--when he's told to beat you up he has to beat you up, but once he's tried his best at completing that order he doesn't have anything preventing him from turning around and moving the rock for you except the risk that his bosses will be mad at him. I don't think Misery would have been able to do that.

At the end of the game, Misery is able to stop obeying Date because after he loses his body she ceases to recognize him as the bearer of the crown, and therefore he no longer is her master. She still has to act in the interest of the crown, however, which is why she uses Sue as a hostage to try to get you to leave the island when you go for the core.

Could Balrog be a by-product of the crown-making process?
@ fire's request:

I mean, there's no evidence against Balrog being a product of the crown.
Perhaps, you know, he's like the dregs of evil, not evil enough to be part of the crown.
Or maybe he's designed to be a guardian of the crown, and created at the same time as it.
I'm just think because, out of all the things on the island, nothing else looks like Balrog.
And if it doesn't fit, it probably wasn't there to begin with.

You know, when Quote arrives at the Undead Core, but is stopped by Misery, who summons Sue.
Let me offer you a deal.
You can die together with the island, or you can leave and forget you ever came...
If you promise to leave at once, I can guarantee this girl's life.
Otherwise...
Maybe she would really let Quote go, if the Doctor didn't show up.

Oh, right, that. Now I remember.

No it didn't. Freeman utterly failed to answer my question. T-Jack, on the other hand, successfully answered it.
