So, what's the significance? Also, does this mean that the Doctor is related to the Sakamoto family in some way?

iirc, Pixel used green as a substitute for black. I'm pretty sure that quite a few asians have black hair so I dun think hair color implies that Date is related to the Sakamotos.
But that's the boring answer so theorize on I guess.

Yeah, like Lace briefly said, Pixel said in an interview that he originally wanted to make all the Sakamotos' hair black, but that he apparently didn't have the necessary spriting skill to do it right, as their hair would all blend in with most backgrounds, and be hard to make out. Hmm, maybe I can find that interview...
