Why is quote called quote?

I think he was made to transfer messages to people by recording them and repeating it to the reciver so he technicly Quotes The sender.
I'm working on a mod. It isn't a full game mod,just a text mod. It will be called Quote story. In it, Quote talks.I will make a topic about it once i get to the MALCO part.It may also have a few stage changes.

Because he's a quotation mark. He was named quote because his creator was a writer.
Where did you hear that he was made by a writer?

I've read that he says something, but the '.....' make that you must imagine it yourself.His name ironically symbolizes the fact he says nothing.

Then again, a lot of games have silent protagonists that somehow do communicate with other characters. It just isn't seen/heard by the viewer. So I guess it's implied he does talk?
