Hi

I am an increasingly embarrassingly old Australian-who-is-also-a-bird currently essentially unemployed college graduate still living at home who yells at you when you make sillies on a certain internet forum

I find it awkward picking specific things that I like out of nowhere because whatever I start with will make first impressions on people, which is annoying because really I'm interested in almost everything and love gaining knowledge (but not being taught, sadly). This isn't really that important because you guys have known me for quite some time, but I mentioned it anyway because that's what I figure this thread is for!!!1! I guess notably, I know almost all of this site's history/modding history (although my memories are patchy on some parts due to time/my being less active/not-discovering the view new posts button until I became an admin), my most recent obsessions have been politics and shmups, and I have a penchant for being very slow and picky about forum posting and using lots of brackets and slashes because I want what I say to be as meaningful as possible (unless I'm making a joke/being blunt/you get the idea (hopefully)).

I'll be happy to answer any questions I don't consider dumb (that is, neither interesting nor funny), although I would also appreciate it if you tried not to ask really generalised questions because unless I have something relevant that's been on my mind recently I'll struggle to answer it. Possible positive outcomes I foresee resulting from this thread include having people actually read what I say for once, dispelling a few myths about myself/other people and maybe even helping you to understand me a little :momo:

I'm ready (or possibly reddy)
I'm an admin

Would you be able to tell some of us about your origins on the site? You are probably one of the oldest active members so I doubt there is anybody left that remembers when you joined. So like, what brought you here, why you stayed, what it was like in 06', what *you* were like in 06', e. all of the above f. some of the above

What about politics do you find interesting? To me it seems like a bit of a farce, a bunch of people plying to win favour and popular opinion to secure their free meal ticket for life. The campaigns themselves are especially silly, with all the money spent on advertising and the grandiose speeches, it seems to matter little whether a person would actually make a good candidate and rather whether he can plaster his face on enough billboards and appeal to pathos.

Why do you dislike anime so much?
Have you watched any? If so, which one(s)?
Would you ever put aside your dislike and give some of the anime related media that is considered good a chance? Ie Cowboy Bebop, Katawa Shoujo, etc

What is your kitty's name?

How did you become a bird?

Have you ever gotten a serious injury before?

I hate to get personal so quickly but this question has been on my mind for quite some time:
What are your views on love, relationships, marriage, and sex? From what I have gathered, you seem rather opposed to those topics. I am really curious to hear all your opinions on it. Again, my apologies for getting so personal but I would like to know.

Do you consider yourself a nice person?

What are the forum members to you as a whole? (Friends, family, partners in work, etc)

What are some first impressions of members you had that have changed for you?

What does your immediate family consist of?

Favorite foods?

2. Do you like listening to music with singing, or do you prefer instrumental tracks?
3. Would you rather live alone, or with somebody? They can be a friend, a partner, an arch rival, etc.
4. Do you still play Cave Story?
5. If you have one, what's your favorite sport?
6. What's your favorite thing to do when with your friends?
7. What's the deal with Vegemite? Seriously, I don't get it.

SP does, and maybe X-Calibar or some of the other old members that show up once a year

So like, what brought you here,

Jenka's Nightmare

why you stayed

Modding was fun and really interesting to me, still is, although the community has expanded in other areas since then

what it was like in 06'

Very quiet, but lots of stuff to show for it :mahin:

what *you* were like in 06'

I had gotten over the bulk of my creepy teenage childishness by then, but I was still somewhat immature/unclear in my writing style/lacking some confidence. However, I don't remember it being that big of a deal because I didn't really start posting a lot until mid-2007-ish. I think nearly all of my posting in 06 was in the mods section giving/requesting feedback.

I find it interesting the way each governing system works and how they differ from one another, its history (both change and why it tends to repeat itself or be forgotten), and perhaps most of all how it gets manipulated. It kind of sucks because our lifetimes have just happened to coincide with a period of 'safe' politics, driven by social and commercial media and the gradual increase in power of moneyed interests since the war. Seems like it's something everyone should keep track of, because knowing who's running/breaking your country and how is very important :toroko2: Partisanship can go choke on a dick though.

Why do you dislike anime so much?

Because an unreasonably large swathe of it is horrible garbage designed to appeal to horrible people and make them feel like being horrible is okay and not horribly horrible. This is based on experience - I have encountered countless forums/message boards/streams where the token weaboo (or multiple thereof) is easily the most spiteful obnoxious person with constantly hurt feelings, including this one.

Have you watched any? If so, which one(s)?

I watched a few as a kid, but I see them as essentially cartoons; Pokemons, Digimons, DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh! et. al. It retrospect they were are mostly very silly, but still kind of fun and heartwarming. That's about it, but I don't really watch TV that often anymore anyway.

Would you ever put aside your dislike and give some of the anime related media that is considered good a chance? Ie Cowboy Bebop

I actually do want to watch Bebop at some point, it looks really good. Another one I ran into that looks interesting is Serial Experiments Lain. I'm in no rush though, it's not like they'll be going anywhere.

Kawata Shoujo

lol

I really don't think you guys actually want me to play this because unless it's the most outstandingly amazing thing I've ever read I'm going to tear it a new arsehole and never let you live it down

What is your kitty's name?

Cleo

My mum named her

How did you become a bird?

What kind of fuckign question is this, seriously? How did you "become" a woman you insensitive ha- okay but seriously I think I started it around 2009. I've always like birds and one day I made a "lolololol I'm a bird" funny and it stuck.

Have you ever gotten a serious injury before?

There was that one time I got hit by a truck... also I fractured my left wrist in grade 9 (fell on it, on a basketball court) and I have a gash on my left knee from when I was about 10 (was one of those two-chair swings pushing it with my legs, my leg slipped and went over a bolt taking a chunk of flesh with it, can post a photo of scar if you want), and had a bench fall on my right big toe a little later in primary school (causing the nail to die and have to grow back). I think that's all of the major ones?

I hate to get personal so quickly but this question has been on my mind for quite some time:

I'll save this for a separate post because it's going to take a long time to answer

Do you consider yourself a nice person?

Fundamentally, yes. I gain absolutely no pleasure from getting angry at people, or insulting them, or teasing/bullying etc and it disgusts me whenever I see other people doing it. By the same token, I love the feeling of making other people happy or helping them, almost to the point where I'm obsessed with it at times. Outwardly, I have a tendancy to behave spoiled or selfishly, but this has improved over time and these days I think I'm generally pretty honest with myself. I still have trouble controlling my emotions, and get angry or over-excited probably more than I should, but I think and feel a lot more clearly than I did even a few years ago.

What are the forum members to you as a whole? (Friends, family, partners in work, etc)

I guess I would quantify you guys as friends, but I have long been hesitant to label anyone I know (and by that I mean in real life or anywhere) as 'close friends'. Realistically, it's unlikely that I'll ever meet any of you in person, or share closely in your emotional struggles, or help you get ahead in your lives. I sort of leave that decision up to the other person, because ultimately I have no say if someone suddenly decides they don't want to be friends with me anymore. That's not how I roll. Also, I analyse people very severely, so while this does not depreciate their worth in my eyes as human beings it does make it hard for me to confide in or talk to them regarding topics that we fundamentally disagree about. In some ways we're probably more like a family, where everyone is (except for extreme, but not necessarily rare, cases) stuck with who they've got and have to learn to get on and make it through the hard times. Guess that makes me the big brother (herp derp) who has to balance trying to get along with everyone and making sure that they behave themselves properly :droll:

What are some first impressions of members you had that have changed for you?

Hmm... Without getting into my opinion of my ability to judge other people, there are a few:
Lowell - At first I didn't pay him or the other 20 ppd kiddies much mind. Thought he was a bit annoying with the green Comic Sans and the overbearing posting style, and it very much rustled my jimmies when he nicked all my mod descriptions for the CS Wiki (although even at the time I knew he hadn't really done it on purpose). I did, however, appreciate the way that he didn't let everyone's bitching get to him and kept on posting as he liked, because he knew within himself that he wasn't trying to do anyone any wrong. Then, at a time when I wasn't expecting strength of character from anybody on the site, he came out of nowhere and defended me from a wave of retardation using his void magic. At that moment I realised how much we had in common; both lacking a bit in self-control, but willing to stand up for ourselves and others as long as there is some scrap of a cause worth fighting for. This man has genuine balls and you should all respect him for it.
Actually going back to that earlier question, if you took Lowell and Noxid and fused them together that's about what I would have been like when I first joined :pignon:
cyowolf - After our altercation in the above-linked thread I threw a massive fit at him over PMs, which he took incredibly well and even offered me the hand of friendship. That made two completely unexpected reactions in two days! My heart could barely take it :koron:
jcys/Metalogz/The Joker - Initially I had labelled these guys as generic fast-posting sheeple, but their actions over time showed to me that they did respect others and weren't just in it for themselves. This is why everywhere I go I wish people would speak up more often; your words do make a difference, even if it's only to one person.
Mixer - Personally I think he's mellowed out a great deal lately, which is a lot more than can be said for most of the other forum babbies. Dunc may earn a place here when he stops making those creepy avatars :critter:
Meta - Honestly she strikes me as really a very normal attention-seeking person and I shouldn't blame her for it. Doesn't excuse her past behaviour, but looking back to that time she didn't really deserve my hate the way other people did. That's almost a compliment! :D
sixtyseconds - Making a decent mod is basically instant respect++ from me, as is taking to lurking for a while

I can't think of anyone else at the moment, or at least nobody else with over 130 posts

What does your immediate family consist of?

Mother, father, sister (although she's moved to the big city for study now), "nana" (mom's mother, lives in our house now, downstairs in her own apartment type thing), various pets.

Favorite foods?

Aaaaaaah D: I might have to come back to this one later too

In fact I think I'll end this post right here because it's already crazy huge

I don't know about the fragile hearts of other forum members, but you can yell all kinds of awful things about Katawa Shoujo at me and I won't have a titty attack. I'd honestly like to hear someone badmouth the thing because everyone seems to fall in love with it and the only person I know who didn't doesn't care enough to say much about it.
P.S. My opinion of visual novels wasn't much higher than yours before I read it, so there you go.

ok questions

How do you deal with living in a country full of organisms that are designed to kill the fuck out of you? I know you're not fighting off giant centipedes and spiders every time you walk out to the kitchen, but could you, I dunno, regale us with your most terrifying wildlife encounter?

If you had $1,000,000 to give to a charity, which one would you choose? You can pick a specific one if you want, but something like "one for orphaned burn victims" works fine. Also tell me why because I want to peer inside your soul.

Which skill of yours are you most proud of?

What's the worst thing you've ever done to someone?

What's the best thing, since neither of us want you to look like a bad guy.

1. What's a song you never get tired of listening to?

Spoiler

Spoiler

Spoiler

2. Do you like listening to music with singing, or do you prefer instrumental tracks?

I don't really care as long as the music/song is good

3. Would you rather live alone, or with somebody? They can be a friend, a partner, an arch rival, etc.

You'll need to be more specific. Do you mean people around my age? I'm already living with my parents, and for the time being I'm comfortable enough with that.

4. Do you still play Cave Story?

Well yeah, seeing as it's come out on Steam and all. Most mods are similar enough to the original that I still play the CS engine regularly, if not the original game itself.

5. If you have one, what's your favorite sport?

Video games  (I don't think I have one)

6. What's your favorite thing to do when with your friends?

Video games  (Actually I'm happy doing anything that I don't find dull/embarrassing/etc)

7. What's the deal with Vegemite? Seriously, I don't get it.

About 100 years ago some Aussie scientists isolated pure awesome, and were able to condense it into an edible form so no man or woman would ever have to go without rosy cheeks ever again. Seriously though, it works with most anything that goes with savoury (especially cheese :D) and it's rather good for you. Puts hair on your chest.

The thing is I still don't really want to play it, especially if I'm just going to end up shitting on a bunch of dudes' hard work

How do you deal with living in a country full of organisms that are designed to kill the fuck out of you?

Oh my god you are a wuss, we've been over this so many times

America has earthquakes and volcanoes and oil spills and bigger predatory/territorial mammals (like bears) and evangelicals and FREAKING TORNADOES. Yes I'm aware you live in Canada but if I lived right next to all that I'd still be apprehensive as hell. I guess you have blizzards and the French.

I know you're not fighting off giant centipedes and spiders every time you walk out to the kitchen, but could you, I dunno, regale us with your most terrifying wildlife encounter?

Maybe like a dog or something? The most dangerous wild animal encounter I can think of is getting bitten by a tick or wasp, or maybe having a kangaroo etc. run in front of a vehicle I'm in.

If you had $1,000,000 to give to a charity, which one would you choose? You can pick a specific one if you want, but something like "one for orphaned burn victims" works fine. Also tell me why because I want to peer inside your soul.

I don't know enough about charities to pick one out, so probably something that would help young children with learning or dealing with emotional problems/abuse. That kind of influences shapes people for the rest of their lives, and most kids are so horribly lacking in self-confidence these days that it's sad to watch.

Which skill of yours are you most proud of?

If I had to pick one I would go with my ability to entertain people, because that's about the most productive and meaningful one at the moment

What's the worst thing you've ever done to someone?

I honestly have no idea. I have never really done a lot that would influence other peoples' lives in any manner. I guess parroting "POKEMON POKEMON POKEMON" around like a retard from grades 4 through 7 might have made the other students dread coming to school, but I gave no worse than I got.

What's the best thing, since neither of us want you to look like a bad guy.

See above. I do a lot of little nice things but none that really stand out in my mind.

Questions:

1. If you could change one thing about humanity, what would it be?

2. What incident during your time as a forum mod/admin have you found most frustrating/annoying?

I wanted to ask more but that's all I can think of for now...

And I'm also really curious to hear your answer to Dasu's relationship question :o

Hm. So it's the fandom, then. How interesting.

What are some common annoyances you have with your family members?

What do you consider some big flaws of yours?

When did you start growing your bread(s)?

Is there a certain life event that you consider to be major, and influences the way you are today?

Do you have any strange habits?

How were you treated by your peers throughout your schooling days?

Do you live inland or towards the coast?

What kind of natural disasters happen in Australia? I remember a long time ago when I was talking to you you mentioned a hurricane or something.

What is your favorite food (or type of food)?

What is your ultimate goal in life?

What is one thing that you know/love but you are in disbelief if someone doesn't know that thing that you know? For example:
"oh hey I've played this game that everyone plays that is called Call of Duty" (note: I will never play any more games from this monotonous franchise again; this all only stay as an example)
"what's call of duty"
"you've never heard of call of duty I am in disbelief"
