Not sure how much Pixel knows about Greek mythology, but if the gun's name is to do with vengeance, I would assume it's to avenge Curly. Since you fight Misery and the Doctor with it.

First off, I want everyone to know that I make no attempt whatsoever to deny that posting this theory of mine was a huge mistake. I seriously cannot describe how embarassed I am right now.
Secondly, the reason I did not address GIRakaCHEEZER's theory is because I think Dunc's to be possible as well. If anybody has something to add to this topic about anything other than the logic behind the names of guns in Cave Story, then please do not post on this topic.

I fail to see how that's more valid than GIR's "the name Spur is a mistranslation, the weapon's name should be Trail. Like the trail it leaves behind it." theory.

No it's not exactly a mistranslation, it would still translate to "Spur" but when the japanese say SPUR they are talking about the german word aka "Trail".You mean Dunc's theory in which he blames localization?
