Hey so a lot of people have changed their names over the past year or so.
By a lot I mean like five that I can remember.

I just decided to make a thread where we can archive these changes and discuss them. Why? Because fuck you that's why.

Anyways the ones I know of are:
explosive -> sexplosive
WildDesu -> WD
Marx -> Omega
LunarSoul -> MagicDoorz

What drives a user to change their name? Embarrassment? A desire to let go of your past and move forward? Something else entirely?

Personally I changed my name because after using "sexplosive" for a while on IRC (iirc the original change was done when we were trying to make our usernames more sexy. Good times.) I really identified with that name more than explosive. Plus it's like 10x more original. And sexy.

wedge of cheese I believe had his name changed to Wedge of Cheese, because capitalization is important.

Name changes are a strange thing. I wouldn't change my name in real life, and I wouldn't change my name on a forum (unless it was a really minor change), because overall it's just really confusing for lots of people.

Thanks for your input, RageTH.

In my opinion, name changes are becoming too common. They should only be requested if you have a good reason, like wedge of cheese did, not if you just want a different name. If you wanted a different name, you should have chosen it. It's too late now, we'll always think of you as LunarSold.

If I changed my name in real life, it would confuse and disorient people because they would still think of me as my previous name. Forums are no different, it doesn't matter if your name is something ridiculous like JacobXanth819.

Wasn't Gardebiter's forum name originally ShInInG PhAnToM or something to that effect? Or was that just an interwebs name that people used to know him by.

JacobX891 -> GameGenie747 -> JakeXanth

fix'd

Didn't Carrotlord also change from no capitalization to capitalization?

I think mine is the only one where the change actually saved people some confusion, since people were always calling me "WoC" even when I was all lowercase :)

edit: damnit now I wanna know what RageTH said :(

I'll never understand the point in name changes.

And WoodenRat never liked you in the first place

Thanks for sharing. Your contribution really added to thread. Good work.

On the topics, however, the only name change I would consider is Cultr1 or perhaps just cultr.

I kinda like the all-lowercase thing I got goin' on though.
