I tried to start the game for the first time using the English translation patch, and a message popped up asking to specify the directory I have the game saved in. I clicked the Windows symbol on the bottom left of the screen so I could sift through my files and drag it to the desktop. Program didn't recognize it as a valid place.
Okay, that was probably stupid, I thought. So I put it in a folder in the desktop called "STUFFS" (where I keep tons of music and whatnot). And once I go back to the directory box, click Desktop, choose STUFFS, select the folder within STUFFS that I had it saved to, I see that there are no options branching below the folder within STUFFS. Awesome, I think. Looks specific enough. This should work.
Lo and behold, it still gives me the "no files to work with" crap.
I know this is probably a stupid issue, but this is really starting to frustrate me.

Put Cave Story in your C:\ directory, see how that works out for you. I've never tried to put it somewhere else, so I haven't encountered this problem before.
