Why did this go away? I liked that feature.
Is it possible to bring it back? I preferred when it when I didn't have to visit a profile to see whether or not I'd be able to see it on their profile.

I miss this too, but it will be a while before we get that back if ever. You're not alone if you're disappointed in the annoyances about this new forum that were never fixed.It may be possible if I can insert php into the template and calculate it manually, but I shouldn't make the change while the forums are live, so it'd have to wait until the next time I upgrade the forums, whenever that might be.I know you said you were having trouble getting this to work, but it would still be nice if one's age would be displayed above the user's post.
