The Gaudi population used to be an amazing civilization, with a strong economy and unique traditions. However one day everything changed. Their beloved homes started trembling, shaking as if they were alive. Everything started moving, forming strange shapeless blocks and even killing some of the gaudi. Strangely, the blocks seemed to form a colossal labyrinth. More than half of the once striving gaudi were dead, including their King Naygiggah and his wife, Adibisse.
That's just my version of the story, write yours if you want to.

Hm... has the Gaudi civilization anything to do with the cilvilization Ballos destroyed, by the way? Did the humans evolve from Gaudis? This sounds like it could end up being interesting...

Yeah, most of it at least.

Both civilizations had trading routes with eachother, but nothing important. Chaba's dad/grandfather was a renown merchant. Either this or humans evolved from Gaudis. I'm not sure which would be more interesting.

Good idea to me...
Will this be a prequel or sequel to Cave Story?
Oh, and for some weapon, like Fireball, Blade, (well, alot of the weapons this fits) you could use the flying Gaudi projectile or Soldier Gaudi projectile.
