Maybe they can produce an electric shock, like certain eels, or the flying jellyfish of Skybreaker*.Some jellyfishes do and some don't, we can't really know about the ones on the island.
But thinking about how they can fly and live outside of water I would have to say they would be pretty damn dangerous.
As for the unbeatability of the Core... what you have said is true iff you do not have an air tank. This is not a significant detail, since you don't have one in th game, but it's still something to remember.
